Joint Sponsor?

Hello,

I hope everyone is doing great;

 

So my fiancé (the alien) is unemployed, he makes 40,000 dollars a year so above the 125 pourcent guideline poverty, but I think it still gonna be problematic cause he doesn't work and he has some taxes that he didn"t pay yet, so I think we should ask my cousin who lives there with her husband to be a joint sponsor.

Should I? And if yes is it gonna minimize our chances to get the visa?

He is not the alien for US immigration purposes....You are.......If he is unemployed, his current annual income is $0.00. You will need a joint sponsor.  But first, he MUST have filed taxes for the past 3 years if he was required to do so.  Otherwise, there will be no visa.

Oh I see... and in case he files all his taxes is having a joint sponsor gonna affect our chances of getting the visa?

That will be at the discretion of the interviewing consulate officer.  He/She will evaluate the entire financial picture of both the sponsor, the joint sponsor, and the beneficiary. Many people use a joint sponsor.  In what country do you reside?

How will he support you?  Even if you get the visa, you won't be eligible to work for 6-8 months.

I saved and I'm still saving money to when I get there

If he's unemployed and has an income of $0, the only way you're going to get a visa is by having a joint sponsor (unless one of you has thousands of dollars in savings). They'll need to earn enough to support the dependent members of their household and you. 

 

Not sure what stage you're at - depending on how far away your interview will be, your fiancé may have time to get a job?
