Not what I was told. I was told I might not be able to register to vote without the update at SS.

Did you try registering online. In my state, I will not be able to do online registration with out updating SSN office about immigration status. I think you can still register to vote if you go to DMV office or Board of elections office in your county. If there is name change during naturalization, things become little more complicated.

What state? Quote your source.

The only reporting that SSA returns to the state or county, is whether that person's SSN is alive or deceased.

Ohio. I tried online and got a message stating that I am not a US citizen as per BMV records (in my state it is called Bureau of Motor Vehicles, BMV)and then went to BMV to register. I submitted my form to them and was told that it may take a week to update online.

If there is a name change, even BMV can not update the records as SSN and new name do not match (If SSN office is not updated with new name and SSN). But you can go to Board of elections office in your county to register by showing naturalization certificate.

Each and every state is different and how their databases linked with voter system also works differently.

what? I registered to vote online the day after my oath ceremony and now I am showing up as registered to vote with my precinct info and all. I am in Missouri. I have not even contact SSA or DMV. I only applied for passport that too today. I registered to vote online atleast 4 days ago. On 27th. My oath ceremony was on 26th.

SSA updates have nothing to do with Voting.

Where do you get this info? If you could please tell me so I can have a peace of mind.

I need to register to vote and I haven’t done it I thought social and dL needed to be updated prior registering to vote.

Can you show me in the website where it says you don’t need to update either your dL or ss to register to vote?

At the oath ceremony, they told us to wait few days to update our socials then update our DL so we could register to vote because our status will be updated.  Unfortunately covid19 has social security offices closed.

When I became permanent resident I renewed my dL and the expiration on my dL was the date from my work permit instead of my birthday,  the lady at the dmv explained me next  time immigration status change I need to update social first because dmv uses the social to verify status.
