Ex-postal worker destroyed immigration papers thought to be ‘lost’ in mail, feds say

In 2018, panicked residents began calling Elko Hispanic Services in Nevada about green cards, work permits, and other urgent immigration paperwork that never arrived in their mailboxes.

Eloisa Mendoza, who runs the office, heard from at least 60 people in her community, but suspects hundreds more may have been affected, The Nevada Independent reported.

It turns out the missing paperwork, which cost jobs, canceled trips and created other havoc, wasn’t just lost in the mail — it had been purposely destroyed or discarded, federal charges say.

Diana Molyneux, 77, who has since lost her job at a Salt Lake City postal facility, was indicted by a federal grand jury in 2019 on two counts of destroying or delaying mail, The Salt Lake Tribune reported....

Why this for the profile pic?  Often in movies and on TV when they show Hawaii they show this beach/view. So, instead of doing Kauai or some other locale, we decided to do here, so that whenever some show shows Hawaii and this view, we will see where we were married.

Visajourney Friends,

I came across this in the news today: https://www.fox13now.com/news/local-news/former-slc-post-office-employee-accused-of-destroying-immigration-documents-since-2017.

In an ideal world, you wouldn't get RFE, documents would come on time, you'd fill out the right form at the right time. Unfortunately, things don't always run smoothly. My wife came to America on a K1 visa, and I endured a lot of stress and frustration. We aren't even done with the process either.

It's even more frustrating when people are deliberately preventing you from legally immigrating to America for whatever personal reasons they hold. In this case, destroying immigration documents as a postal worker.

If you are unsure about something, it never hurts to check and/or follow up.

Best wishes in your journey

Application Submitted: March 16, 2018.

Case Approved: November 19, 2018.

This is so incredibly cruel. How some have taken their hatred of immigrants to the nth degree that she would sabotage, in violation of her oath, federal law and what should be her morals, do destroy these green cards. It is so sad. As the advocate said;

“I pray for her. I really do,”

Postal workers sometimes forget that they're agents of the Federal government.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

The woman is now demanding to get a new representation because the General attorney Garcia is "non-native speaker whom she has hard time communicating" and he is a hispanic, which is a conflict of interest. Never mind the fact that GA garcia has a masters jn English, much less the fact that a government wouldnt hire anyone with subpar English for such an important position.

This lady is clearly a xenophobic and racist who uses "your English is bad" as a flimsy, thin veil to hide her racism. Funny how she might end up in a prison like her very old ancestor from 18th century!

Here was the original indictment, it's quite brief:

https://www.scribd.com/document/472165531/USA-v-Diana-K-Molyneux

I'm just amazed that someone would have the gall to think they have the right to interfere in this way with legal immigration. What a sad, pathetic soul, especially given so many of the accounts of this lady's discriminatory beliefs (not people's beliefs of her beliefs, but the things she said and the way she conducted herself), which wouldn't have mattered so much if she didn't use her position to damage others.

I definitely want to read more about the evidence they have of her doing this (how they catch people like her on mail fraud/tampering/etc), and more details of why she did it (retrieving personal communications and such would likely reveal this). The immigration process is every bit as sacred institutionally as elections, I really hope she gets more than a few years in prison and pays a heavy civil price for the suffering she inflicted on so many people. People immigrating legally and following the law should never have to fear this sort of thing happening, they've got enough on their plate with the process itself.
