Hey guys I'm not really sure what to do here they just updated the Working paper processing times for k-1'ers to 27-36 months. How can they expect people to not work for three years? I get I said i would support him for 10 years but realistically most people will go nuts not working for that long and if we're having a baby then what i have enough money to support a family of 4, we have a baby that makes 5 then i don't make enough for him to stay? Just seems like they don't care and i have no clue what to do

It's either a glitch or they changed so people don't complain after the issues they had last month. It could also be because of the upcoming furlough. Most people will still get a GC before the 36 months mark though.

who knows what will happen as now 70% of the staff will be furloughed end of August

some have waited so long already with the offices closed for interviews because of the covid (now closed for almost 6 months)

all these things will put you back in time

and with extended times for K1 interviews at embassies,  i wonder if they are being held up too because of the furloughs here

no K1 coming now will have a fast and easy time for AOS and EAD cards

and i realized long ago when we went thru 6 years to get our visa that USCIS staff is not paid to "care"

The planned furlough on August 31st has been cancelled. Wait times will still be increased though apparently...

Thanks for raising attention to this. I really don't know what to do either! My partner cannot support me not working for 3 years! I am waiting to see if anything changes in the next few weeks.

Seems more like a glitch in the system. This happens occasionally, and is typically fixed within a few days.

I feel that this have to be something similar as when you are downloading something in your PC and the computer says the estimate is 3 minutes and all the sudden goes up to 3 days and then go back to normal.

It could also be because of the upcoming furlough.

Instead of furlough it'll be budget cuts: "U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services today announced that the agency will avert an administrative furlough of more than 13,000 employees, scheduled to begin Aug. 30 as a result of unprecedented spending cuts and a steady increase in daily incoming revenue and receipts." https://www.uscis.gov/news/news-releases/uscis-averts-furlough-of-nearly-70-of-workforce

*You said you would pay back the government if he becomes a public charge  until he works 40 quarters/becomes a citizen/renounces his residency.
That is a huge drawback of adjusting status - your ability to work is in someone else’s hands. Hopefully it will be re-updated with much lower processing times.

Don't you think it can have anything to do with the cuts USCIS made to avoid the furlough?

I think it is a political definition. Instead of the public charge, the USCIS will transform any family based AOS in a living hell process. Only family based AOS has changed! Employment based is going super fast, they are in 29 of March, 2020. Coincidence?
