for the AP when he sent in his AOS. is there anywhere is can still outside of the 50 states while we wait?

Your question is confusing.

Since he didn't apply for AP, if he leaves the US, his AOS will be considered abandoned.

If he leaves the US without an AP/GC he won't be paroled back in or admitted.

He can't leave US territory without AP and return without a new visa.

There are a few places that are not part of the 50 states that are US territory, such as Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands, though I don't know what travel restrictions exist for those at this time.

Your husband can still apply for AP, though it might not be processed before he gets his green card and he'll need to include a copy of his receipt from his I-485.
