From everything I have read regarding this issue, the police had done everything possible to subdue this person who had an active arrest warrant on him, was hit twice by tasers, and was fighting with the cops.  Should the cops have diffused the situation by simply not responding to the 911 call?  Maybe an unarmed social worker would have done better against someone who has a long criminal record including resisting authority.  I don’t know if you have had any experience in situations like this, but if the cops had decided that today was the day they were going to kill a black man, as Lebron James suggested, they actually did a bad job since he actually survived.

I think you mean defuse the situation? De-escalate perhaps.

 

Well, they did try that.  And this guy refused to behave in a civil manner for them.  Then he walked away from them, while they were obviously trying not to manhandled him, and he went inside his vehicle to get a knife... to cut a pineapple for the police?  I think not.  

 

While the shooting may seem.excessive to you, bear in mind that once you start shooting someone, especially with a 9mm using FMJ rounds, you shoot until they stay down.  Criminals, particularly those hopped up on drugs, have been known to take a full magazine (10-14 rounds) and keep on coming for the cops.

Nearly 1,000 people are killed by police each year.  Stats on unjustified killings are hard to come by (the FBI just started tracking it last year I believe?).  But going by my old brain, I'd guess 10 per year seem to hit the MSM?  Anyone remember more than that?
