What is the process to extend the expiration date of our NOA2? And do we contact USCIS or the NVC for this?

I called NVC earlier in the week and they said they would automatically be reinstated. I'm not sure if that's for the full 4 months or whatever was remaining on the NOA2 when things shut down.

At the NVC waiting with all the others too be sent out to the embassies once they open for k1

NVC cannot do it, only the consulate can and it is typically done at the window during the interview.

YMMV

So I don't need to contact the USCIS to have my NOA2 extended? I figured that's who I'd call since that's where it's from.

USCIS has washed its hands of the petition.   The power to extend is with the consular

You shouldn't have a concern for the expiration date on your NOA2. Your current NOA2 is valid for four months but can be extended by the discretion of the embassy in four month increments to a one-year total. With the current situation, I see no problem with you being able to proceed to receiving a visa in the NOA2 period of one year. Nothing must be done by you for the extension. When your embassy opens again, they will address this.

The Ireland US Embassy states the following which I believe will hold true for most embassies moving forward.

If the fiancé(e) visa petition expires, you may revalidate the petition with a letter from the petitioner stating that you both remain legally free to marry and that you will do so within 90 days of your arrival in the United States. You should take the letter with you to your visa interview in the future, not mail it or email it to the Embassy.

We filed for the k1 back in 2016 and in early 2017 started gathering all necessary documents and the medical and everything. We noticed though that the NOA2 was expiring and freaked out. After calling and then emailing the embassy in Brussels repeatedly, we finally got a reply and all we had to do was have an updated letter of intent to marry and bring it to the embassy when she had her interview. She did just that and got her visa no problem. Now, I'm not sure if it's the case for every embassy, but that's what we had to do in Belgium. Hope this gives you a little piece of mind.

I am in the same situation. I spoke with someone at the NVC this week and asked if I needed to formally request an extension (my NOA2 expired August 8 )but was told not to worry about it, they were automatically extending... I hope she was correct. I did send an extension request to the embassy but got a generic reply that did not even address my request.
