Two incipient hurricanes (actually, one to be a hurricane, the other a himmicane) are to enter the Gulf of Mexico and make U.S. landfall separately on the same day at almost the same time.  At this writing, both are expected to be Category 1 (and let's hope that's all).

This dual appearance is unprecedented since modern tracking began in the early 1960s.

The only previous time two hurricanes were simultaneously in the Gulf was in 1959.  Beulah took a 90-degree westward turn into Mexico, and "Unnamed Hurricane Three" crossed Florida diagonally from southwest to northeast.

This will be our hurricane/himmicane thread.

Tropical Depression #14 will be "mine" in Texas, sigh man.  At least the ground is bone-dry for a change and can handle some of the (currently) projected 8" to 12" rainfall.

Reports from meteorologists this morning seemed to agree that the models aren't handling something well. Seeing some doubt that both systems would enter the Gulf at the same time. Statistically possible but extremely rare and would need certain circumstances to come together perfectly. One meteorologist seems to think the one system will go in the Gulf and the other would be punted onto following an Isaias-like track.

Yeah that was fun. Sometimes streaks of light from blown power lines or lighting or whatever and see chit flying through the air and wonder what that was. The whole house shaking constantly...

Been through a couple nighttime ones. Didn't find them more scary in the dark... but honestly? A Derecho at night was about the most terrifying experience I've had. I rode that out in a bathtub.

Bull. Imagine a 24+ hours of a cat 3 or above cane. My Niece was in to and scared but everything she said was the same stuff as a brief hurricane condition. Granted an hour or terror is hellish if one has no warning and we get warnings days in advance sometimes. These are going to be ones anyway so just a thunder boomer here with gusts.

Of course a hurricane is loud and the sound in the dark of the wind can be harrowing but I just didn't find any hurricane I've been through as frightening as the Derecho of 2012. It was the middle of the night no real warning, and truly like a bomb went off when it was over. Really feel for those in Iowa that went through this recently.

I feel for them as well as My niece and her family. Natural disasters are no fun for the ones hit by them. I been through many over many decades and most are not too scary but some are. Ike was not too bad really on wind damage but the tidal surge was powerful and I live next to Galveston bay. When the water entered my garage from Ike told me the surge was higher than they said it was and got scary but luckily it started to subside at that time. Any higher and I was going to be in bad shape. It is all perspective and some luck.
