Approximately half of the population of the Middle East is under the age of 21. They use cell phones, follow fashion, and attend school like their Western counterparts. But they must also navigate a complex path between traditional culture, religious values, Western attitudes, and social expectations as they establish identities, search for jobs, and find marriage partners.

How do the youth in the Middle East see their future? What are their hopes, fears and challenges? Who inspires them and who do they look to for guidance? How will this youth-bulge affect regional transformation?

Dr. Shafeeq Ghabra is the host and commentator for The Weekly Diwaniya, a new socio-political TV program aimed at opening a dialog with young people in the Middle East and bridging the gap between generations. It is now one of the most popular programs in the region. Dr. Ghabra was the past president of the American University of Kuwait, an institution he helped launch. He also heads the Jussor Arabiyya Center for Leadership and is a regular contributor to newspapers both in the Middle East and around the world. He is often interviewed on major news outlets such as CNN and BBC and is the author of several books including Israel and the Arabs: From the Conflict of Issues to the Peace of Interests.
