My experience with Social Security Administration:

Due to the SSA offices are closed, I mailed in my fiance's application and copy of her passport two days after she arrived in the USA.

Ten days later, I received everything back by postal mail with a hand written note that I need to submit the original passport.

I re-mailed application with original passport. Two weeks later, everything was returned via postal mail with another hand written note telling me to call for an appointment. The number that was written down was invalid so I googled the correct SSA office to call.

The person I talked to on the phone said the SSA is only accepting applications for essential or dire circumstances.

I explained my finance needs a SSN so I can add her to my health insurance when we get married.

The SSA took my finance's information over the phone and said she will forward the request to a Supervisor because only they can determine if the application will be process. It will take 3 weeks for the Supervisor to respond.

Three weeks later, the Supervisor called and we made an appointment to go to the SSA office.

After the appointment, the Supervisor told my fiance that it will take three weeks to process.

Four weeks later, no SSN in the mail. I called the SSA Office again and was told it takes 30 days to process the application.

A week later, we got a letter from SSA telling us they cannot issue a SSN because the date on the I-94 will expire before they can issue her a SSN. #######?!!!!!

They were the ones that delayed the process. I don't understand why it takes “30 days” to process an application for a Social Security Account Number. I can build a house faster than that.

All we can do now is wait to get my wife's EAD Card and try again. There is nothing else we can do.

SSA is a joke tbh . Even with greencard in hand you still doesn’t have SsN. They was so used to the normaL work process where you come and apply in person. Now all of these employees are older , did not catch up with technology , lazier and are not willing to help. Its a formula for a complete disaster.
and guess what, nobody is there to supervise them neither, because “ due to covid”

they all blame the virus while sitting on their asses all day inside a secured facility doing nothing beside answer phone call and give the same “ you are not in system, you can only apply if its emergency, we are back logging, the covid 19, the budget , sorry can’t help you “

Lie
