Wow, one instance does not a trend make nor proves one's hypothesis.

Come on, don't be simplistic. You could have looked up the same info that I just posted below. Which clear shows a pause in interview due to COVID and the resumption of interviews.

A pause of approx. 4 months is a delay.

You are correct about the 4 months but that is not what we (or at least I am) are talking about. IR1 processing resumed but IR5 did not and I could not find anywhere that says IR1 is to resume but IR5 is paused until 12/31/20. Lucky Cat said that in a response to my original post but again I cannot find it spelled out anywhere.

Family-based visa categories affected

The initial April 22 proclamation temporarily suspended entry for many prospective immigrants applying for family-based green cards from abroad. The June 22 proclamation extends these restrictions until December 31, 2020, and includes additional suspensions for certain family-based nonimmigrant programs.

The June 22 extension and expansion applies to individuals seeking to enter the U.S. from another country through the following immigrant and nonimmigrant family visa programs:

Family-Based Permanent Immigrant Visas

  • F1 visas for the unmarried adult children of U.S. citizens
  • F2 visas for the spouses and unmarried children of U.S. lawful permanent residents (green card holders).
  • F3 visas for married sons or daughters of U.S. citizens.
  • F4 visas for adult siblings of U.S. citizen

YMMV

Thank you! Much appreciated.

Any idea why they made a distinction between IR1 and all the other IRs?

Not sure but IR1 had been identified as a "mission critical " category and the others do not have this designation

YMMV

No question that you are correct with the job losses but it does not address the issue I have with the current rule(s). There are a thousands of illegals coming into this country that will compete with the lower income Americans looking for jobs by a much larger number than a legal immigrant will/would impact the job market. Not to mention that IR1 Visas are being processed which are much younger folks (statistically) that will compete in the job market.  So the instead of putting resources to that problem, the government stops legal immigration which takes funding away from USCIS (this agency is one of the few that actually funds itself) which in turn has to furlough 60% of its employees. Just seems backwards to me.

It’s low hanging fruit .. easy to pick compared to the other things you mention

Chain migration. Those are the categories affected. Yeah I know they said it’s the labor force but elementary school age children of LPRs are not a threat to the labor force.

Not that bickering over the real intentions changes anything here.
