Hello

i have applied for my wife's visa and all her documents have been accepted. Unfortunately my income was not enough so my brother is my household member. All of his documents have been accepted but i am having difficulty with the part where it say "PROOF OF RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SPONSOR AND HOUSEHOLD MEMBER". I uploaded my brothers birth certificate and the English translation. But both documents were rejected. Please can someone explain to me why this is happening and what other document do i need to provide to nvc to prove he is related to me. I tried to google all this but found no information on this topic. Thank you and have a good day.

hello

yes my income was not enough so i had to ask my brother to file an affidavit of support. But the application that he filed was i864A. I am currently having trouble giving "proof of relationship". The NVC wants me to provide documents that show that i am related to my brother.

In addition to what @Congoman has mentioned (assuming you're related by birth), you may need to show that you live in the SAME household, so likely some document with his name at the same address where you reside. Perhaps, he has an official ID registered with the same address as the one on your ID?  (of course, you'd send copies of both, e.g. drivers' licenses)

A better solution is probably to have your brother be the "Joint Sponsor" instead of a household member.  If his income is sufficient, that is the proper role for him.  He would then provide an I-864 instead of I-864a and you would delete all the financial forms already submitted and submit new ones for each of you.  Remove him from your form.

If his income alone is NOT sufficient to qualify to sponsor, then you must submit evidence of relationship.  For a sibling that's a properly uploaded birth certificate for each of you.  His BC alone is not evidence you are brothers.

hello again

Thank you for all your reply. Can someone please explain why people prefer joint sponsor over household member. Is their a drawback to being an household member. Will their be more documents to send in if my brother was a household member? I have seen another post where the op was told to get a joint sponsor over a household member.
