Once I move to the US with a K1 we will be living in WA.My future family in law lives in Minnesota and since James is a Truck Driver and n the road for most of the time I thought about going up to spend some time with his family. Now my question, can I get my driver's license in Minnesota or do I have to get it in WA since we will be living there? I don't have one at all at this point. And don't really have anyone but Jim who could teach me driving in Wa,so the in laws would be perfect.Any advice?

As Dan said you get your licence from the State you reside in. If you got one in Minnesota when you get to Washington State you would have to go into the DMV there and have it exchanged for a Washington one, extra expense.

If you drive in the UK you should not have any problems passing a US test. Also whenever I go from Oregon over to Washington State I am amazed at how bad they drive so their test must be easier than most :innocent:

Well as I said I dont have a drivers license yet.None since it is way too expensive here in Germany, average of 2500$ to get one.And my problem is that my Fiance is an OTR Truck Driver and is hardly ever home (he will switch to a different position once we get to the US but that might take a few weeks or even more). So he definitley doesn't have the time to teach me driving.........and there's no one else in WA that could or would since my friends are in different States and his family as I said in Minnesota.Seeing that I have a 6 year old and a hubby to be that wont be home a lot for a while I will need a License quick.........Thats why I thought I could have the family up in Minnesota show me how to drive (well teach me I'd rather say) ,changing it to a WA Lisence shouldn't be a biggie.I just need to know whether I could (legally able to) get it done in Minnesota instead of having to wait months in WA.

You probably will need to take the written and drivers test once you get the green card and soc card. My husband can drive on his JA license for 90 days and then he has to apply for his IL license when he gets the soc card. He called the DMV when he got her to find out this info. So you will need to call your DMV.

I never drove before I came to the states. It really is easy, I picked it up after less than 4 hours driving! Here in AZ you can apply for the DL on a k1 and once your I-94 expires, you can extend your license with the NOA1 for the AOS so I'll never go without my license now. I know its different in each state, so contact your local DMV, or the one in Minnesota. I emailed the AZ DMV before I arrived in the US and explained my situation and they replied with a very helpful email, telling me exactly what I needed to do.
