I think the fees are more than fair.

Its these people that have the "entitlement mentality" that really irk me.

"its not fair,....why do the fees have to go up", " I should not have to pay that much" , How come they get away with it"

Well lets look at this logically:

The USCIS is a self funding agency, which means that they get no money from the Budget.

They did exactly what I would have done, they analyzed the the real costs of processing all of our cases, added on a little bit because the President and Congress have told them that not only do they not get any money but they must waive the fees for refugees and those who are classified under the "temporary protected status".

Now, because they get no more money, and they have a mandate to clear the cases, what do you think that are going to do?

I think they are going to get the plugs out their arses and process these cases.

Absolutely agree :thumbs::thumbs:

If you can't afford USCIS fees, you can't afford to immigrate on a K visa

There is a trillion dollar war to finance!!!

You really have no clue, please do not bring your politics into this

Did you read the OP's rant?

What does that have to do anything with this response?

And yes I did, this comment is leagues away from the OP

Keeping things ON topic - i would suppose the idea is they balance customers ( petitioner/beneficaries) needs with business needs ( costs for admin etc)...i guess they are operating like a business - as stated a little earlier - the bottom line is you choose to do it or not - we would all like to pay the minimum but sometimes we have to bite the bullet - and doing it legally for me is about peace of mind i cannot make comment on illegal immigrants as i think they will also claim each of there cases are different i dont condone it but as they say " walk a mile in another mans shoes ".

With respect to the fees, I think they are reasonable.

Think about it, an international airline ticket costs 800-1600, depending on the destination of course.

A flat panel LCD TV costs, on average, 1200.

Few complaints on these items.

If you are serious about being with your SO, pony up the dough or don't, if the cost-benefit analysis proves otherwise.

Personally, I would have paid anything, to get my sweetheart here.

Also, if you are immigrating on a K visa (which you likely will be to do AOS) you will be looking at about 2-4 months minimum with the beneficiary unable to work (and probably MUCH longer to find the right job). An extra $500 is a drop in the bucket compared to that.

Thank you, William, for actually being one of the few to actually address the original topic.

As grateful as I am to have missed most of the increase fee hikes, I would have found a way to pay. It will be interesting to see, in the upcoming months, if there is any change at all in processing times. I know many of us will be watching...

What's so unfair about the fees. If you are trying to immigrat to the US then that's what it takes. So what is fair? Stop complaining and crying

It's unfair that they can raise their prices by 100% "just because."

It's unfair that illegal immigrants are looking at being admitted to the US "just because" and we still have to fork over thousands of dollars for the privilege.

It's unfair that most of us are better educated, more productive members of society than many Americans and yet we're treated like common criminals by immigration officers every time we try to re-enter the US. I was held in San Juan airport for two hours "just because" an immigration officer felt like it. It took my father, who has an O1 visa (person of outstanding ability) to yell at the official before he realised that he'd better let me go if he wanted to keep his job.

The entire process is convoluted and unfair.

I'm tired of being treated like a criminal and I'm tired of seeing well-meaning immigrants usurped by illegals who somehow believe that it's their *right* just to walk on in. It's not a right; it's a privilege. But it's a privilege whose process being abused for financial and political gains.
