POE IR-1 COVID procedures

Hello everyone,

My wife has her IR-1 visa in hand and we are looking to book her flight to Denver from Sicily. We're a bit confused on the COVID and quarantine procedures. Since she is coming from the Schengen region will she have to stay in another country for 14 days before entering the U.S.? She has two annotations on her visa: "Exception under PP on Novel Coronavirus" and "Exception under PP on Risk to Labor Market." I'm assuming this doesn't allow her to bypass any quarantine rules. For those of you who recently came to the U.S. on an IR-1 visa, were you allowed to enter the U.S. directly? Where from? Were you denied entry? Did you have any problems during your trip because of quarantine procedures (layovers, delays, etc.). Sorry, I know I'm asking a lot of questions, but we are just trying to plan carefully with as few issues as possible. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks so much!

I believe she may be asked to self quarantine upon her arrival in the US.  No need to stay in any other country for 14 days.  I think the notations are to show that she is eligible to enter the US as the spouse of a USC.

Are you a US citizen? If yes, then she is exempt from the travel ban and does not need to quarantine in another country for 14 days prior to her travel to the US. However upon entry she may need to quarantine whatever state her final destination is at, depending on their own rules.

The CR1 visa should make the process easier as she has legal documentation for her immigration intent.

Take the usual precautions (masks etc) and fly if you are not symptomatic. Also it is better to check in, in person, to avoid complications.

Good luck and congrats!

Hi,

We entered LA on a IR1/IR2 visa on July 30th and didn't have to self quarantine. We came from Frankfurt, Germany.

The quarantine rules depend on the State.

Good luck and safe travels and congratulations for finally being able to come to the US🍾😊!!

To add, I quarantined in Colorado, it's not a legal requirement but I'd rather not be blamed for bringing it in. I was in Denver also. I wore a mask to travel and the CDC came on board our flight but this is four months ago and the pandemic was at more of a peak then. We were screened on entry too.

Also, when I got my visa, I didn't get the stamps as I was approved before lockdown so I had to be approved by a US consulate person at Heathrow. It's good they have the stamps now :) Check if you still have to go through one of the 13 airports they have the screening it. Things change a lot. I came in through Newark.

I was on an IR1 too.

I entered a month ago on a CR-1!

I landed from the UK & Schengen area (Glasgow - Amsterdam - Atlanta) and was not even asked to quarantine, though Georgia are notoriously not doing as much they could to stop the spread of the virus and no one seemed too fussed. I filled out a form before leaving the plane swearing I'd had no symptoms and it was checked by someone I presume was from the CDC right at the mouth of the airplane before waving me on.

I did quarantine for a while, but was never directly told to — I think I was given a leaflet that suggested it though.

And yes, as the spouse of a US citizen, you are exempt from the travel bans and can come straight from any banned countries into the USA. 🙂
