USCIS furlough vs. Embassy processing

Hello to everyone.

My question is: Will the USCIS furlough actually somehow impact those cases, that are already at the last stage of awaiting for an interview at the US Embassy/Consulate? Are NVC/Embassies/Department of State parts of USCIS or they are separate governmental institutions?

I am concerned regarding this topic, so please share your thoughts.

P.S. In advance asking y’all to please please be POLITE and express your opinion ADEQUATELY here.

Thank you so much,

Daria

Most positions are funded centrally, primarily by the Department of State. Each Regional Bureau is authorized a number of these positions as determined by the Under Secretary for Management. It also provides up to 50 positions in the Information Management area, also centrally funded.

USCIS is part of DHS.

NVC and the embassies + consulates are part of DOS.

They have different policies, budgets + funding sources, staff, etc. Furloughs at USCIS would not directly impact processes at NVC or the embassy/consulate.

I think if you're doing a k1 then you have to file for AOS after they arrive on the visa and get married. Which is back to the USCIS. I'm sure there's other visas that have to return to the USCIS as well.

... So how will the furlough affect you if you haven't even applied for a visa? A moot point.

Well, we are doing CR-1, to be precise.

Why no timeline then? You start these threads with no way of people relating to what you say as you refuse to fill out one?

Their profile does list IR-1/CR-1. It's not a timeline - and I do highly suggest completing one! :time: - but it was sufficient to answer anything related to their question ITT.

CR-1 will also have to apply for AOS when you arrive into the US after CR-1 Visa approval, so at most it will affect the process of AOS application and such...

That's not right. AOS is to adjust status to get a green card. CR-1/IR-1 is an immigrant visa that grants a green card upon entry. No immigrant visa holder files for AOS.

Did you mean ROC?

Although that's > 2 years down the road for the OP...nobody knows the timelines at that point.
