175 illegal immigrants arrested in OC in five-day sweep

From a Times staff writer

June 23, 2007

A five-day sweep in Orange County has led to the arrests of 175 illegal immigrants, including some with criminal records, authorities said today.

The enforcement action targeted fugitives who had violated immigration laws. It was the biggest such operation to date in the county, according to a statement by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Among those arrested was a convicted child molester from Mexico and a man wanted in that country for allegedly murdering his 74-year-old uncle nine years ago, officials said. Most of those picked up were from Mexico, but the list included illegal immigrants from India, Kenya, the Philippines and Colombia.

Authorities said 100 people arrested in the sweep, which ended today, have been returned to their native countries. According to ICE, there are 632,189 fugitive aliens in the United States. The agency said they are people "who have ignored final orders of deportation issued by immigration judges."

Good catch Annie.

We need to support the officers and agency that performed the sweep. They are going to come under a lot of fire.

I agree, if they are here illegaly, export their arses. Punks like them make it harder for people like us to get our SO here. So we all have to go thru 6 months, years of waiting for our paperwork to be processed. But these guys are getting a free pass.

This effort is really lame in light of what the US Senate is attempting to reintroduce once again...which is a mass blanket amnesty of almost every illegal alien in America. Including criminal gangbangers and absconders with standing deportation orders.

These same people will be eligible for amnesty if the US Senate leadership has its way. How can there be any enforcement credibility when we have idiots in the Senate sending out a message that illegal immigration will be rewarded with permanent residency and eventual US citizenship?

What's wrong with this picture? It boggles the mind.

"Credibility in immigration policy can be summed up in one sentence: Those who should get in, get in; those who should be kept out, are kept out; and those who should not be here will be required to leave."

"...for the system to be credible, people actually have to be deported at the end of the process."

keep up the good work

"The fact that we are here today to debate raising America’s debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the U.S. Government can’t pay its own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our Government’s reckless fiscal policies."

five days

yield: 172??? ROFL, ICE must not even be trying.

The truth is that they won't let them.

Where is Eisenhower & Company when you need guys like them? We did it before...and we can do it again if they let us do it.

Unfortunately the crooks (them) are firmly in control. Eisenhower was right about the military industrial complex. We are up to our neck in it.

It sounds simplistic, but it really is simple.

Get rid of the crooks and work your way down. Cut off the snake's head and the rest falls into place.
