Wehe will wait a very long time for ICE to do anything, that would be measured in glacial terms.

He's not.  There's no obligation to contact the police if an adult chooses to disappear.

Okay not a legal obligation but hopefully there is a conscience somewhere in there that they would ...as a social worker I find it awfully concerning when family members go missing and no one notifies the police...

He’s not even asking if he should notify the police. He’s asking if he should notify ICE!

And as a mom to kids that age who, yes, are 'adults,' but .......

Now put them in a new country, different culture and language, where they were presumably expecting a decent new life, and set them adrift unable to legally work or study ....

(It did also occur to me that “impossible to manage” may mean totally different things to different people, but again that’s a question for family counseling, not an immigration site.)

Exactly.  Parenting is the hardest job in the world.

I’m wondering what the mother thinks of all this?

I had the same thought.  And I really hope she is not in a similarly desperate situation.

Unbelievable, isn’t it? He’s not even concerned that these “friends” might not be friends but a group of people who have taken advantage of a young, vulnerable (and possibly lonely) woman. I dread to think what they could be getting up to. Especially the “hard to manage” comments - could drugs be involved? Who knows...

He didn’t even ask about how to get help for potential mental health issues. I’m wondering what the mother thinks of all this?

Exactly- one of the first things that came to my mind was trafficking (which often involves drugs) and money (since OP can’t work legally) for a young foreign woman. Too bad OP couldn’t come back to clear some things up and see his wrong in basically dangling a carrot in front of her. It’s gotta be a form of abuse to bring someone to the US and leave them in limbo/not fulfill the AOS; when he is the only legal way she has here. Again I know I am making assumptions but with limited info ones gotta assume..
