I-864 - Does USCIS accept expired passport and non-certified birth certificate copies

Hey y'all. I am seeking advice on Form I-864 Affidavit of Support regarding the following supporting documentation requirement: For U.S. citizens or U.S. nationals, a copy of your birth certificate, passport, or certificate of naturalization or citizenship

Firstly, I am confused as to what the requirements for supporting documentation are as the sentence is confusing. Do I need to send in both a copy of my passport and birth certificate or either one? Secondly, my US passport is expired will USCIS still accept this? There has been delays in passport renewals due to COVID so I want to know if it's worth it to wait it out and get a renewal.

Lastly, does USCIS accept non-certified copies of birth certificates?

Thank you in advance.

What do you mean certified? I can tell you with certainty that birthcertificate do NOT need to be Apostille-certified.

I mean a certified copy issued by my county's Vital Records department. Or does a regular photocopy of my original suffice?

All documents submitted to USCIS should be photocopies.

You don't need to send both birth certificate and passport, one of them is fine. I don't think there's a problem with the expired passport as well.

Send a photocopy of your birth certificate.
