In NC where I am at, in order to get a marriage license I need to have a SSN.

For context, I'm Canadian, entered as a tourist in May planned to go back September 1, but my embassy still isn't open(I'm currently waiting on a K1 interview) and instead of going back as planned, I'm just going to get married and AOS here, and have some of my belongings shipped.

Now, obviously I won't be able to get one of those until I get my EAD in, so what happens about that?

Will they just be like 'oh you're Canadian? Okay NVM?!'

You can get married without SSN. North Carolina law is clear. You must submit a notarized affidavit of No Social Security Number: https://www.ncleg.net/EnactedLegislation/Statutes/PDF/ByArticle/Chapter_51/Article_2.pdf "Each applicant for a marriage license shall provide on the application the applicant's social security number. If an applicant does not have a social security number and is ineligible to obtain one, the applicant shall present a statement to that effect, sworn to or affirmed before an officer authorized to administer oaths. Upon presentation of a sworn or affirmed statement, the register of deeds shall issue the license, provided all other requirements are met, and retain the statement with the register's copy of the license. The register of deeds shall not issue a marriage license unless all of the requirements of this section have been met."

In which county or city do you live in?

I am currently in the Durham county.

But if all I have to do is fill out an extra form, that's fine with me.

Yeah my Canadian husband just needed his birth certificate (wasn't even a long form one) and passport and the affidavit HRQX mentioned.  Here is a link to what you are looking for although you may have to rewrite it.  Just print it and take it to a notary.  Make sure they spell your names correctly!   Our notary did not and we had to go back lol

Actually it looks like your county provides the affidavit you just have to get it notarized.  But it looks like what I linked if you are curious.

Do you think I can I get it notarized at the same time? Or do I have to leave, find someone, and go back?

Maybe you could try calling your county's Register of Deeds Office on Monday and ask if they can do it there or if they can send you that county's affidavit form via email so that you can go to a notary public.

For the record NC law is clear you DO NOT need a SSN in order to get married. Where did you hear that from? We got married in Greensboro and my wife did not have a SSN at all

Yes, they have notaries in the register of deeds office.
