This seems appropriate for this thread.  I wonder if anyone will take the offer Andrew Cuomo is touting for a home cooked meal and drinks.  I think that offer is just bait and switch, come to NYC, live here, you will get a governor prepared meal and drinks, and just a whopping big tax bill for dessert.

NYC IS DEAD FOREVER… HERE’S WHY

I love NYC. When I first moved to NYC, it was a dream come true. Every corner was like a theater production happening right in front of me. So much personality, so many stories.

Every subculture I loved was in NYC. I could play chess all day and night. I could go to comedy clubs. I could start any type of business. I could meet people. I had family, friends, opportunities. No matter what happened to me, NYC was a net I could fall back on and bounce back up.

Now it’s completely dead.

“But NYC always always bounces back.” No. Not this time.

“But NYC is the center of the financial universe. Opportunities will flourish here again.” Not this time.

“NYC has experienced worse.” No it hasn’t.

A Facebook group formed a few weeks ago that was for people who were planning a move and wanted others to talk to and ask advice from. Within two or three days it had about 10,000 members.

Every day I see more and more posts, “I’ve been in NYC forever but I guess this time I have to say goodbye.” Every single day I see those posts. I’ve been screenshotting them for my scrapbook.

Three of the most important reasons to move to NYC:

Business opportunities

Culture

Food

And, of course, friends. But if everything I say below is even 1/10 of what I think, then there won’t be as many opportunities to make friends.

That was a good article.  Rush even referred to it on Monday's show.

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I'm so confused though -- one of the images in that Altucher opinion piece as reprinted in its entirety in the NY Post (https://nypost.com/2020/08/17/nyc-is-dead-forever-heres-why-james-altucher/) is this:

james-altucher-redfin-chart.jpg?quality=

Which shows people leaving NYC for LA, even more than for Charlotte or Nashville or Raleigh. I thought LA was now dead, with everyone fleeing it? I guess everyone but people from NYC? 🤷‍♀️

By the way, I did hear back from my old roommate and she said that that footage was old.

About to have a call with a friend I was supposed to be doing a socially-distanced drink with this evening but I need a little longer to recover from being unwell. She is looking to buy in the LA area right now, and is moving down from the Bay Area. It's not so much that she hates the place, but since she is now in a phase of her doctoral program where she doesn't need to be up there, and most of her family and many of her friends are down here, AND she came into an inheritance recently, it makes sense to buy near here. I will let you know what she says about the market in the SF Valley at the moment, as that is where she is looking.

Yeah, it's weird down here. If we were six miles down Wilshire, we'd be in LA and have LADWP, which has its own grid and has said it has no plans for rolling blackouts. But here in SM we have Socal Edison, and it's possible we will have one. I am keeping the thermostat at 78F between 3 and 8. I am okay with it, but he is not. He bought himself a couple of extra fans and is acting like we are in the middle of Death Valley but it's about 78 outside so??? I have the windows open and it's not too bad. The weird thing is that we have a flash flood warning -- but no rain in the forecast.

I have that problem here too.  Wife says (apparently because she is Russian) she can't tolerate the heat and is always lowering the temp.  I try to tell her that when it is 92 outside it is too much of an extreme to come in to a house that is 73 or 74.  What really sets me off is when I walk by the thermostat and see that she has set it down to 69.   Of course it will never get to 69 inside at this time of year and I try to remind her that in the winter if it gets to 69 inside we are turning on the heat.

It's a constant battle, BUT I've installed a wifi thermostat so I can constantly monitor and adjust.  So far I'm one up in this war.
