United Arab Emirates and Israel agree to 'full normalization' of diplomatic relations, Trump announces

 

President Trump on Thursday announced what he called a “Historic Peace Agreement” between Israel and the United Arab Emirates, saying they agreed to “full normalization of relations.”

“HUGE breakthrough today! Historic Peace Agreement between our two GREAT friends, Israel and the United Arab Emirates!” Trump tweeted Thursday morning.

 

The president, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the United Arab Emirates Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed released a joint statement Thursday, after the three spoke “and agreed to the full normalization of relations between Israel and the United Arab Emirates.” The statement said that the “diplomatic breakthrough” was at “the request of President Trump,” and that Israel will “suspend declaring sovereignty over areas outlined in the President’s Vision for Peace and focus its efforts now on expanding ties with other countries in the Arab and Muslim world.”

Israel and the UAE also said they will continue their efforts to “achieve a just, comprehensive and enduring resolution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.”

I forgot to change the channels last night and the CBS news was on. When they ran the story , the cut to the video of Trump announcing it. The lead in was.   Here is Trump taking credit for it.

This is more public normalization rather than "peace". UAE and Israel have been cooperating behind the scenes for a very long time. However Iran has been one of the major reasons those ties have been getting stronger recently.

I certainly don't disagree, but the UAE taking this big a step is something to note.  I have heard that Bahrain might be next up.

It used to be assumed that Bahrain would be the first. There are also oman, qatar, and saudi. Maybe this will pave the way, who knows, I just don't really agree with those calling it a "peace" deal. The countries are not enemies and there wasn't a state of war to start with.

Proof, or is it just the accusation that matters?  I fail to see how getting deferments during the Vietnam era plays a role today, and as you may or may not have seen from others in this thread, this is not totally unexpected.  It is certainly worth noting as up until this time most of these primarily Muslim countries have been against Israel at least publicly even if they were cooperating with them behind the scenes.

if middle east was peaceful how will american weapon companies make trillions by selling arms to muslim countries.  draft dodgers cant call themselves patriots. its called being a coward

So by that logic any US President should foment discord in the Middle East?  Is that what Biden plans?  Btw, I believe the military industrial complex has plenty of customers even without the Middle East.  Btw, thee are plenty of former US Presidents on both sides of the aisle that have not served in the military.
