Actually, a more apt comparison would be to call Austin the Portland of Texas.

It is interesting to see Marxist/Progressives cutting budgets, but of course they do not plan to return the money to the people, but rather divert the funds to other pie-in-the-sky ideas.  If I were the police chiefs in these cities, the first areas I would reduce is the protection details of these officials.

I think that happened a few weeks ago when the mob got close to the mayor's house.  She called in asking for more officers in her area and was told they didn't have any to spare.  Messenger got canned, or at least reassigned.

That is utter BS.  The mayors and councils of these cities are inciting and enabling these riots, why should the police feel any need to protect them.  I know if I was a police officer, in Portland, Seattle, Austin, etc., I would not be putting my life on the line for any elected official.

Negatory.  Already a Portland in Texas, near Corpus Christi.

Sidebar:  I was crushed when the Portland KMart closed down rather early during that purge of stores.

I was in the Key West KMart just a few hours ago.  It's been several years since I have been in there, and... let's just say I am quite sure they won't see 2021.  Really sad inside compared to what it once was.

Truly a retailer who lost touch with reality. I am actually surprised they are still around.  Should have gone away with Montgomery Ward.

Kmart was always out of stock. They have serious supply chain issues. Supply chain and logistics is one of the reasons Wal*mart dominates. 

 

I have been inside Walmart/Sams Dc's. Amazing operations. Many times if walmart sens a shipment to a store, if there is a supplier nearby they will back haul a load back to the DC

Sears and Kmart once dominated the market. Proof that if you are not always  innovating  you can wither and die

Complacency and pride are always a business killer... Kmart had no market innovation, was happy sitting around screwing with local stores like Blockbuster, and didn't feel the need to imitate disruptive entrants. They deserve what they got. 

 

May not be a fan of Walmarts brand comparatively on disruptive technologies but you can tell they are quick to respond to competitors. As long as that's the mentality they'll be in business for a long long time. Being able to stifle the current market choices and hinder market entrants isn't as sustainable as it used to be.
