What you should answer is dependent on if your current spouse has used any other names. Ask your spouse I would think.

May I know why Yes? If I am the applicant and I am a women, does this apply to my spouse (husband)?

Let me give an example. Say my spouse had been given the name John Brown at birth, but he was subsequently adopted and became John Smith. So the answer to the first question would be Yes (and i assume you would be then asked for specifics). Or if he was born John James Smith but hated the name John, so everyone knows him as James. Then you would answer yes to the second question. Does that make it clearer? It’s still more common for women to change their name when they marry , but  it’s not unheard of for men to incorporate their spouses name in their own after marriage, and of course I’m not even considering same sex marriages. There are a lot of reasons why someone might be known by a name other than the one they currently use, and uscis wants to know all the names so they can conduct thorough  checks.

And yes, if you are the applicant they are talking about the person you are married to.

And I’ve just realized (sigh) I included a random Y in my post before my quote of your post which might quite possibly have confused you. It totally wasn’t supposed to be there. Sorry.

You answer yes or no to these questions depending on the information your spouse gives you.

Thank you very much. I got you now. I’m not sure if you would also be able to help me. I’ve been here since April 2014 and I became a legal resident on June 2015, with that being said I’ve been GC Holder for 5 years and still married with the same spouse for the last 6years. Which option should I choose for basis of eligibility? No. 1 or 2?

And since I have 2 stepchild, I will include them on the list but do I need to upload their birth certificate as well?

Hello, I just submitted my N-400 application and I just noticed the snapshot draft that I downloaded as pdf has wrong information. For the question how many times my current spouse been married, it’s supposed to be 2 but the draft shows 1. And on my spouse address the State is missing. Am I going to have problem?
