Can outside people mess up you getting a visa?

Okay, for now this is a hypothetical question. My husband and I have nothing to hide, we’re first loves, happily married, we applied for a marriage visa while living together abroad, have been BEST friends for 7 years, we have nothing that anyone could accuse us of “bad intentions” in this Visa process.

We have recently gotten out of a manipulative church situation, here in Israel, where their MAJOR pet peeve was Israelis marrying Americans and moving to America. The church leaders are American themselves, they go to America whenever they care to, but they really hate when their people from their Israeli group move to the US. It’s like leaving the faith and turning to Satanism for them. 🙄

We got out of the church when we realized how bad stuff was getting, but we are a bit uncomfortable with the situation of them finding out about our applying to come to the US. We’re related to some of these people and they unfortunately found out about us one day moving. They were angry at us and said some manipulative stuff and told us that God would never bless us if we went to the US. Then we once heard one of the leaders say to someone else “We’ll do whatever it takes to make it to where you have to stay in Israel.” The leader said he’d write the people in charge and make sure they stayed put. This comment was said in jest to someone else, but my husband and I got nervous.

We left the church, but they still write us, and have even sent other people to write us to find out information about what we’re doing.
If these people wanted to try to do problems to us for our process, would the USCIS take their word over ours? If they said they suspected fraud to manipulate the situation, what would that do to us?

I know they’d have nothing on us if they claimed it and needed proof to back up their claims, but I don’t know how USCIS works. I would hope they’d need proof 🥺❤️. I just want to be prepared if there was ever an issue.

Thanks for answering with whatever you know.
I hope this isn’t taken as a super weird question. Lol.

They can do nothing. While this situation of yours is 'different' for sure. I am confident USCIS gets a lot of weird requests and mostly they ignore.

There is no law enforcement agency out there that investigates every single tip seriously. They don't have the time or energy to do that. With USCIS specifically, since marriage is the most common path to permanent residency, they get calls all the time from jilted ex-spouses crying fraud and manipulation. Unless hard evidence is produced and the source seems very credible, "tips" are simply a pool of ####### that USCIS has to wade through (same as the other feds, state and local police).

Your former church congregation may not like what you two are doing to get to America but it certainly does not put them or anyone (outside of DHS authority) in a position to cast a shadow of suspected fraud to the USCIS. It will basically be shrugged aside as irrelevant because all evidence you and your spouse provide for the application is what is used to determine your eligibility for getting a US visa approved.

Pay no mind to people....when God is for YOU, who can stand against you? :)

Sounds like it's time for a "cease and desist" letter from an attorney telling them to stop the harassment.

Just because some people do not like you moving to America, USCIS won`t investigate it nor they don`t have people or resources to do that unless it is absolutely a threat to the country.

It should not be a concern.  In order for USCIS or the state department to consider any accusations credible, they will need to be provided with evidence other than hearsay.

However, I suggest you document everthing you know so far.  If something does happen, you can provide the documentation to a lawyer to help you with either immigration or with legal action against the offenders.  Write down what they said, when they said it.  Also get names of 3rd party that also heard or seen what you have heard and seen.

This situation is odd but not unique. There is a belief among a (thankfully very small) group of Americans that living here should be only for people whom they consider “worthy” of it. The Reddit forum for watchers of a certain reality show that focuses on people coming here on marriage visas is littered with people saying “so-and-so doesn’t deserve a green card!” just because they don’t like the person’s attitude, or “she has really earned that green card!”. These are people who have zero knowledge of the immigration process.

Obtaining a green card through marriage is not a competition, not a story-writing contest. Green cards are not “awarded” based on who “deserves” it, who had the most romantic story, who cooks the best meals for their spouse, etc. They are granted based on strict eligibility criteria, to which there is a yes or no answer. Is the marriage legal? Is the marriage bona fide? Does the immigrant meet the general requirements for health and good moral character? If the answers are yes to all 3, you are eligible for a spousal visa, whether other people like you or not. It’s none of their business. USCIS and the department of State follow rules on these matters regarding eligibility. Their decisions are based on legal codes, not hearsay. Just as very little weight is given to statements from friends and family members swearing that you are the cutest, most loving couple on earth, even less interest is shown by the officials in random missives from people not involved in the process who just have personal ax to grind.

Dealing with such people is like dealing with Covid 19- new cases and symptoms everyday. Quarantine yourself from such shenanigans and social distance from such people.

But the OP said that the “people in Israel“ that are causing problems are Americans. Second paragraph.

Yeah, they’re Americans, but they are very against America. 🤷🏻‍♀️🤷🏻‍♀️ They like America for what they can get out of it, but don’t like losing people to that “trap of Satan” across the sea. It’s just their own opinion. They’ve got nothing to back it up.

I’m just glad we’ve seen it and can get away from it before trusting them with more information and stuff. 🤷🏻‍♀️
