Hi everyone,

Like a lot of people here, my extension letter is about to expire soon, and if it wasn't for COVID we could make an infopass appointment to get the I-551 stamp on our passport to have proof of status.

I know we can call USCIS and request an appointment nowadays, but I read here that they will only accept it if you prove there is an emergency, such as you need to leave the country.

My question is: who has successfully called USCIS during COVID and got an appointment scheduled to get the stamp? What did you say? How did you prove emergency?

Thank you!

I told them why I needed it. They simply decided if it was considered an emergency or not in order to get the appointment. At the appointment I brought documents showing why I needed it but they didn't ask for anything they just confirmed why I needed it verbally. This was when offices weren't even open in April at the heights of the pandemic.

When I got my first stamp before COVID It was because I needed to travel and they did ask to see evidence of that. I showed them my travel reservations.

just book some refundable tickets on an airlines and tell them you need to travel. its ridiculous that they are asking to justify why you need stamping of green card

Yep...simply on the call tell them you need to travel and have tickets booked. It is an emergency for you to visit your family. Used that for my AOS I-551 stamp 2 years ago...when my I-90 was taking too long to process. When I got to the infopass, no one validated whether I had the tickets or not...they're just looking for verbal confirmation.
