I think he actually looks good for being in his 60's.

me too. Actually not sure why they didn't just put the movie 25 years after the last one, instead of 5 or 10 or whatver it is.

It is I think - set in the 1950's, rather than the late 1930's.

There was a script floating around about 4 years ago, but I think either Lucas or Speilberg weren't completely happy with it, then Ford, Lucas and Spielberg took on various commitments - they finally found an opening to film it now. I just hope the new script was worth the wait.

Frank Darabont wrote the original screenplay but apparently George Lucas hated it (though on the basis of George's recent efforts I wouldn't trust him to recognise a good script if it hit him in the head). David Koepp did the rewrite I think.

The pre-production delays only increase the antipation - but this'll have to be pretty darn good to meet up to it.

I LOVE the Indy films, used to watch them every single time it was on TV. Harrison Ford may be old, but Indy without him just wouldn't be right. I rather see a story about Indy having to wear diapers for incontinence than have another person play him.

Ford just isn't a very good actor these days - in fact I'm not sure he was anything but pedestrian in anything he's starred in since the last Indy movie in 1989. Almost like he stopped trying after he hit it big.

Michael Caine had a similar hiatus during the 70's, 80's and 90's. Seems to have come out of it in the last few years - but still barely a patch on what he was in the 60's (if of course, people consider Caine to have ever been a good actor).

Caine has been doing some pretty good acting now that he's older. I was born in the 80's so I wouldn't know much about him in early days, although I've heard a lot about how good he was.

Ford makes cool characters, and he did impersonate Indy and Han, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's a good actor. It's like Kevin Costner, he did a couple of good movies WAY back, but now? Ugh. I wonder if it's the movie tha's too good to have a bad actor spoil it, or if he was indeed any good.

I wouldn’t call Ford or Caine character actors, not by a long chalk. Now Johnny Depp is very definitely a character actor, able to change not only his voice appearance but even his mannerisms to match the role he’s playing. Ford & Caine never did anything like that IMO. They’re of a muchness IMO – kind of like the old-school actors (like John Wayne and Charlton Heston) who could read the lines but pretty much played themselves. The fact that Ford is iconic for those two roles – Han Solo and Indiana Jones is because they were basically suited to his natural acting style, not because of anything he specifically brought to them to make them stand out.

Caine’s the same in that respect. He also did some iconic (but now dated) movies in the 60’s which built his reputation – Zulu, Alfie, Get Carter and the original Harry Palmer films. He’s actually on record saying that he considers himself a very good voice actor, able to imitate a wide variety of accents. To date, I’ve not seen him do anything but cockney (though like most actors he’s had a go at an American accent). So I think there’s a bit of self-deception going on there – especially when compared to someone like Christian Bale, who has actually shown that he can do multiple accents with ease.

I was referring to Ford only, Caine is definitly not a character actor.

Depp changes completely between his roles, and he's fantastic.

Christian Bale makes me nervous ever since I saw that American Pyscho movie.

I think there's a difference between actors of genuine talent (like Bale & Depp) and actors of good-middling ability, but who have good charisma in certain roles (Ford & Caine) they play. Ford's been pretty generic in a lot of his other movies - especially the likes of Air Force 1 and Firewall.

Bale was great in American Psycho - I love that movie. Its amazing how stressful life can be for a character who places so much importance on the art of being superficial.

There's just one actor that freaks me out more than Bale, and that's Ray Liotta. It's not in the sense of their acting at all, they just freak me out. It's very weird but you could say I have Ray Liotta fobia. I feel nervous if I watch a movie that has him in it. I mean, seeing him makes me feel uncomfortable.

I know, I am a freak.

This is so known in my family that mom will shout for me to come quick to see something on TV, just for me to run there and it's Ray on it. It became a joke.

I just didn't "get" that film. Although you'd have to be blind to not admit that Bale looked fantastic in it.

I loved him in Batman Begins and The Machinist.

Ray Liotta even managed to make Shoeless Joe Jackson in Field Of Dreams seem menacing!

He did an amazing job in The Machinist. That movie makes me depressed.

EDIT: It's not menacing for me, just freaky. Even when he plays good guy it makes me nervous, it probably makes me even more nervous.
