Crew Member Hurt After Military Helicopter Gets Shot Flying Over Virginia
 

A UH-1N Huey helicopter was forced to make an emergency landing after it was shot during a training mission over Virginia on Monday (August 10). The helicopter was about ten miles northwest of Manassas, flying at about 1,000 feet when it came under fire.

The pilots rerouted the chopper and landed safely at Manassas Regional Airport, where paramedics were standing by. One of the pilots was injured and taken to the hospital. The pilot has since been released.

The AF is the only one that still does, I think.  The army quit using them years ago.  AF still uses them as instrument training birds at Ft. Rucker, AL and a few select places for flying around lower-ranking generals.

Would this just be a lucky shot or someone that was really skilled with some kind of scope? I remember a couple years back someone with a scope would take shots at random government buildings in the VA/DC area and they never figured out who.

Either/or.  Depending on the mode of flight, it's not hard to hit a helo with just about any weapon, particularly the mode of flight they were in.

shooting at and hitting a moving object with a scope is quite a bit more difficult than shooting at a building.
