Hi y'all.

So my husband and I submitted my I751 paperwork in October of 2018 and have yet to hear back. I tried to file an inquiry for being outside normal processing times but it keeps giving me an error that my receipt number is invalid. When I copy and paste it into the case status tracker, it gives me the "fingerprints received" status it's been giving me for almost 16 months at this point. Is there anything we can do? Like if we call the hotline, would they be able to help us? Has anyone had that happen before?

Did you check on this site?

Yes, that's the status there as of April 2019: Case Was Updated To Show Fingerprints Were Taken

I also copy and pasted the number from there over to the case inquiry site but no dice so far.

Try to call them and see what can they do?

Have you tried emailing your congressional rep or senator or ombudsman?

Yeah, we're going to do that today, I think. I was just hoping maybe someone here would have experience with that because it just freaked me out last night when it kept saying that my receipt number is invalid when I tried to file an inquiry.

We were kinda talking about that but we weren't sure if that actually does anything. But I think we will if nothing else works.

Thank you both for your suggestions!

It depends on what state you're in. Some states, the politicians don't care about helping immigrants but others do. I'm in California, so my senator's very immigrant-friendly etc (Senator Kamala Harris). Her office has helped us with our AoS case when it seemed to be "stuck" with no updates for a long time. I also reached out to her when I finally got my GC but they printed the wrong issuance/expiry dates. Her office helped me expedite my case since I literally JUST got the card and had been approved without issues. Google your zip code + senator/congresswoman/congressman and go through their websites and send them an email. Most of them will have a section on their sites that say, "Help with a Federal Agency" and forms to fill out about your case etc.

Additionally, the USCIS ombudsman is specifically designed to help bridge communications between applicants and the agency. However, they are VERY slow to respond. Politicians take a while too but I've had more success with Senator Harris's office getting back to me than the ombudsman. Google "USCIS ombudsman" and they will also have forms for you to provide info about your case and what's wrong etc.

Also, have you filed N400?

Thank you! I'm in Washington and both Senators are Democrats so we will definitely try that after calling them later. And I've started filling out the N400 form but then I read on here that some people who have the I751 and the N400 pending at the same time in Seattle have waited for over 4 years with no action on their cases, so I haven't actually filed the N400 yet and I was going to wait until I have the 10 year green card, just in case.

Dang, four years for I-751/N-400 combo cases? I only just filed I-751 a week ago, so I really don't know enough about N-400 yet. However, yes, I've seen some people suggest waiting to file N-400 after the I-751 has been adjudicated to avoid any possible confusion and mishaps on USCIS' part. I've seen a few cases where people thought they were doing a combo interview, only to be told their N-400 file was not transported to the local field office so the IO could not perform the N-400 interview right then and there. In any case, file a request for help through your political representative. It may take a some time, but they have direct lines to USCIS. At minimum, your senators will at least inquire the agency about your case and that will probably get it moving again.
