Police Certificate from Gibraltar

Hi guys,

Just got a message from NVC (CR-1 process) that they've rejected my police certificate from Gibraltar (Subject Access Request Certificate) and asked for a certificate from the UK instead (even though I've never lived there). We called them and kind of clarified this - they said we should submit an explanation letter, but wanted to check if anyone here had to provide a police cert from Gibraltar and if so, how did they go about it.

Thank you :)

Usually this website is a good go-to to see what documents are accepted by geography:

https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Visa-Reciprocity-and-Civil-Documents-by-Country/Gibraltar.html

It mentions the following:

Quote

Police/Prison Records

Available

Fees: £5.00

Document Name: Certificate of Good Conduct

Issuing Government Authority: The Royal Gibraltar Police

Procedure for Obtaining: Contact the Royal Gibraltar Police

New Mole House Police Station
Rosia Road
Gibraltar
(350) 200 72500

Comments: Police records can be obtained by former residents currently outside of Gibraltar.

Though some of the data on Gibraltar is out of date; it hasn't been updated to reflect same-sex marriages being available.

Thanks for your response Melc - this is exactly what we submitted and it has been rejected with a request to provide a UK police cert 🤔  Hopefully just a missunderstanding.

Oh, strange! In the accompanying letter, I would point them to this as well.

Out of curiosity, for “country” on the other forms, did you specify UK or Gibraltar?

We specified the country as Gibraltar. But also lived in the UK and filed through DCF, so we never dealt with the NVC

You could always try contacting ACRO to see if they can write a statement that they don’t cover Gibraltar and attach that as well.

Thanks Melc! I actually went through my DS-260 to double check and there's no reference to the UK anywhere there (other than countries visited).

We re-submitted the Gibraltar certs yesterday with two pieces of additional information: 1. Email correspondence with Gibraltar Police explaining that they no longer issue "Certificate of Good Conduct", instead they call it now Subject Access Request Certificate; 2. A letter explaining we never resided in the UK (pointing them to that documents website).

Hopefully this will clarify it 🤞
