They specifically state on their website that no "walk-ins" are allowed during the pandemic, that's the difference. You have to show up on the right day and the right time or they will send you home again. And since OP is 5 hours away from his ASC office, that's a long drive to just be sent away again.

No walk-ins applied for Field Office only not Application Support Center.

OP said in his very first post that his letter stipulates that only military are allowed walk-ins at the ASC....due to COVID. Normally, they do allow walk-ins. But not right now, it seems.
