Nationwide riot megathread

I don't see anybody in the media calling this a mostly peaceful protest.  Odd.

I wonder if any celebrities and other assorted rich people are going to donate to bail these protesters out of jail when they're arrested.

On a positive note,  almost every Republican politician has condemned this.  But, I don't know if Trump has said anything yet. I heard a little of his speech earlier and it was not helpful.

The big fear is what happens when it gets dark.

What a legacy this will be for Trump. He will go down with some of the other "great" Presidents  i.e.  Andrew Jackson and Andrew Johnson. Andrew Jackson did make it on the 20 dollar bill....go figure!

I think if you went back in this thread, no one would be saying "this is fine, property destruction is fine, threatening people is fine." I know I definitely said it wasn't fine. I never once reacted to what I believe to be others' genuine concern that things were getting out of control with a laughing reaction. I don't find humor in violence.

The first two pages of this very thread disagree.

I remember the conversation going, there are riots all over, including LA.

Then *someone said, nonsense, I am here , in LA , and there are no riots.

Then it was all nonsense on your part.

We really need a great leader now but is there anyone out there?

We need someone to motivate people to work to heal our country instead of just working to make sure their side wins.

The Trump presidency ends with destruction, riots, a plague and the economy in chaos. Would that have been too easy of a prediction to make in 2016?

Who knew it would end in tears?

"Meanwhile, Sen. Josh Hawley, a Missouri Republican and the first senator to say he would object to the Electoral College certification process, has yet to condemn the violence.

He tweeted shortly before 12:30 p.m. that he looked forward to objecting before Congress to certifying President-elect Joe Biden's victory.

Hawley also was spotted earlier in the day acknowledging protesters outside the Capitol before the rioting started.

He made headlines earlier in the week for claiming that "Antifa scumbags" had harassed his family at the Hawleys' Virginia home, but later backed off claims that his residence had been vandalized."

To me, this is more of an indictment of our current political and social situation. We are at the point where people with a different opinion aren't just wrong,  they are evil and the enemy.  Today is a continuation of what has been happening all year.

We can come back from all of this but I don't have faith in any of our current leaders to lead us in the right direction.

This is really not good, but things have been bad for a long time. We're in a really bad place right now.

Unfortunately out of this many people still won't grasp who the real enemy here is, those who wanted to institute this crisis and benefit the most from it.

Wife left it up to me over a decade ago as to who was moving where, I chose rather than bring her to the US I'd go to Canada, telling her I see the US political environment as unstable and in many ways beyond reason. While my thoughts were proven true, my biggest mistake was thinking that it was a US-exclusive issue. The undermining of western civilization is certainly no accident.

The greatest overtures that could've been done was to simply audit these machines and the vote, give people the assurance they were demanding. You just don't see it anymore.

At any rate, my biggest disagreement with other Trump supporters was those who would lash out at those of us who would say "you get what you deserve".. their rationale was precisely the one that drove them inside the Capitol. While I understand some of the motivation and agree, there logistically is no way from A to B where A is "invade Capitol" and B is "Trump re-elected".

The polarization is also seen in every little debate with people where you describe these issues and all you get in return is gaslighting. That's fine. You discuss extremism occurring and they play it down or want to play games. That's fine. But when something like this happens, it gets hard to feel bad for their hysteria here, it's actually rather funny.

A person got shot in the chest, I don't know what happened there but I don't feel bad. A lady got shot in the neck trying to get into one of the chambers where members of Congress were being holed up because they didn't evacuate fast enough. I don't feel bad for her either.

Overall, people either want something more for their country or they just want this stuff. I've long been fine with dismantling the Republic. The last decade I think is a really good window into how ineffective things have become, at best, and I don't think the sort of extremism we've seen is the worst of it to come. But why should it be different? People sit here and posture about wanting more but make all the efforts to contribute to the opposite. Right above without irony a poster says this is how Trump's term ends, not acknowledging anything of what was posted here about Antifa firebombings days ago. So I reiterate, I find the hysteria rather funny, and absolutely, people get what they deserve. If you want something different, walk the walk.

Remember the complete chaos and malignant destruction and protests when Bush or Obama left office?  I don't either.

The goes back at l least 12 and years and many will remember the mega meltdown 4 years  ago

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

If you remember anything similar to what happened today, why not elaborate for those of us that don't?

Well the pink hats were pretty violent.
