Sorry, more questions about expiration dates

Sorry to keep asking questions, i keep getting confused with validities and expirations.

1. My UK police certificate expires in December 2020. Does it have to be valid on the day of the interview or does it need to be valid further than that?
2. My passport expires next year. Does it need to have 6 months validity on the day of the interview or on the day I travel to the USA? I ask because I want to wait to enter few months so I get IR instead of CR ( plus I dont feel confortable fliying to the US in current circumstances).

I was thinking of rescheduling my interview in London so I can get a new passport but im concerned that I will be put at the back of the queue with all the backlog and have to wait another year.

Take a look here: https://uk.usembassy.gov/visas/family-immigration/required-documents/

Based on the website above, your Police Certificate needs to be valid on the day of your interview. Your passport needs to be valid for six months beyond your intended date of entry into the United States. So if you're planning travelling in January, the latest expiry date would be July, although I'm not sure how they would check what your date of entry (indeed many people may not have booked flights etc.) at the time of interview.

You can’t even ask for a new date until your current interview date has passed. It won’t take a year.
Will your new passport involve a name change as well? As in when women choose to take husbands name after marriage.

Thats the risk, that I have no visibility of when approx the next available date would be. Could be months if they are sorting the whole covid backlog?

No name change. I think im going to keep my date, hope I can get everything I need. In theory the UK and my passport are exempt from 6 month passport requirements but I dont know if that applies to the visa. But still, i should have at least a window of 6 weeks where I would pass my 2 year aniversary and still have 6 months validity.

@Wuozopo, particular thankyou to you, you have helped me so much.
