Hey VJ friends! I've searched the board and have found a couple of threads from a year or two back but would like some more recent examples if possible.

I am filing my N-400 online based on the three year rule and when asked about residency and job employment it asks for last 5 years despite filing on the 3 year rule. Anyone who has filed and/or been approved recently, did you just add the last three years and ignore the warning that dates are missing, or did you fill out all 5 years?

As always, thanks in advance!

I filed under the 3 year rule in Feb of this year. At one point the form asks you to document all time spent outside the USA during the 5 years - in my case (since I was under the 3 year rule) I'd have spent most of the first 1-2 years outside the US as you'd expect for a non-GC holder. I answered based on the fact that it should be 3 years as that was the rule I was filing under... I included any travel, work etc that was after my arrival in the US on the k1, rather than for 5 years. I was approved. They should really sort out the wording on their forms.

I answered those specific questions about residency and work for the entire 5 years.

For the questions where it didn't apply, the ones about traveling outside of the US etc, I answered based on three years because it obviously didn't apply. I couldn't travel outside of the US if I never lived here at the time but the other questions didn't say only answer about 5 years if you've lived here for 5 years.

Two different types of questions.
