Nobody becomes a US citizen automatically unless they were born inside the US.

We need a lot more information like how did your son obtain his visa and who sponsored him. Assuming it was you who sponsored him we need to know YOUR status also.

But more than likely your son will not become citizen for a few years. It is a process that takes time and money.

Some children automatically become U.S. citizens by operation of law after their birth but before they turn 18 years of age. See INA 320.

But OP's son won't qualify for that. He'll need to file N-400 after 5 years of being LPR. Or if he happens to marry a USC soon and remains married to that USC for 3 years, then he can file N-400.

My son just enter US with resident visa he is going to be 18 in a few week, can he become citizen after he turn 18?, is it automatically or I have to apply like everybody else?

Thanks

If you are a citizen, and he enters on an immigrant visa/green card into your physical and legal custody before he turns 18, then he will automatically become a citizen under INA320. https://www.uscis.gov/policy-manual/volume-12-part-h-chapter-4
Any other circumstance and the answer is no. And you don’t apply, he applies for himself.

Are you a US citizen? (Parent). That happened to me. I entered US at age of 15. My dad petitioned me and he was a US citizen. I came in with a LPR. A few years later when I was about 20 I realized that I was already considered a US citizen. I picked up my citizenship certificate at the immigration service of the state I live in. That was about 2006. Not sure if this have changed, but I don't think it has.
