Ended up being something like $30

Let us know how it goes once the computer arrives.  I know Amazon typically does havent any problems and Im not sure why, maybe because of their clout or some other reason.  If ordering from Apple for the Philippines they already have the stock in country so there is no additional fees.

In my experience with customs and what is mentioned above, customs (which includes the post office) will charge outrageous tax and custom duties sometimes more than the declared value.  Custom and the post office has been known to hold packages hostage unless some outrageous fee is paid upon pickup.  These are usually charges where a receipt can be presented and then other charges where there is no receipt.  Thats why the recommendation was given to buy in-country and send the money separately even if you will get a slightly older spec computer.

Please let us know the outcome once the package does arrive.  It will be beneficial for alot of people, however I would think as mentioned above, you could see large fees added upon pickup.

The United States is now a country obsessed with the worship of its own ignorance.  Americans are proud of not knowing things.  They have reached a point where ignorance, is an actual virtue.  To reject the advice of experts is to assert autonomy, a way for Americans to insulate their increasingly fragile egos from ever being told they're wrong about anything.  It is a new Declaration of Independence: no longer do we hold these truths to be self-evident, we hold all truths to be self-evident, even the ones that arent true.  All things are knowable and every opinion on any subject is as good as any other.  The fundamental knowledge of the average American is now so low that it has crashed through the floor of "uninformed", passed "misinformed", on the way down, and now plummeting to "aggressively wrong."

I suspect the customs/duty will be more than the cost of the laptop

I think so as well.  I went to the Newegg website and in the small print, it states that the person picking up the package will have to pay all necessary custom duties, taxes, etc etc etc and that Newegg holds no responsibility over this.  We recommended not to use these sites to the OP but I am curious how it turns out.  Its really difficult to have things shipped into the Philippines without a bunch of hassle.  Even the BB boxes are now being searched where in the past, they were not.

Thats good to know.  Thanks for reporting back.  Maybe its another option for a reliable shipper to the Philippines without getting ripped off.

It actually shipped from the KUU Official Store, one of Newegg's affiliates.  So it shipped from Kwai Fong, Hong Kong instead of the warehouse Newegg usually ships from in City of Industry, California which might have helped with the delivery time.  If I had known it would arrive without issues I would have sent something a bit more powerful but so far she seems happy with it.

Honestly that looks to be decent laptop for basic usage. The only thing I would do is increase the ram which any tech shop can do in an hour. If you pay me enough money I can go go there and do it

I wonder if it is shipped from HK instead of USA is why you didn't get the customs/import duty fees?

6GB seems plenty for basic office use and videos.  It's that little dual core Atom CPU I'm concerned about.  Shame prices on Ryzen 4000 series went up so quickly

I know... But I am a techie and work in IT so that 6GB would be upgraded to at least 10GB if not more than that

$28.73 in duty / Value added tax plus another $12 on her end for a $240 laptop.  So there were customs fees but the normal amount the law says instead of the arbitrary extortion some people report.  I wonder if it's because it ships directly from the vendor so they can't make up a value for it whereas if I shipped it myself the customs people could decide it's worth whatever they say it is?

I sent an old Fujitusi laptop back in 2007, I declared value like 300 and it was about 3 years old. When it got there Fed Ex wanted me to pay extra 300 USD to customs/duty to release the laptop for shipment.

I had always been told the reason laptops are so expensive and so outdated in the Philippines is due to the high tariff / customs duty on them when they enter the country.

I think you got lucky, but like I said if I tried it I am sure I would get stuck with a high import tax to release it for delivery.
