Well, given his career, he would know more than most about how to couch criminal cases, whether prosecution or defense.  Prosecutors have to make charges stick effectively not only during initial trial, but also appeal.

Whether or not Chauvin actually caused Floyd's death with the knee-hold, he obviously sat on him while the life left Floyd's body, and did nothing to render first aid.  It may not be enough for a murder 1 charge, but it sure does make him a miserable human being.

And thanks for that link XD. It looks like Parry also writes for Federalist and Inquirer...neither of which I don't like, especially Federalist with its dodgy funding source, defending Roy Moore dating underage girls as "not without some merit if one wants to raise a large family" (something that happens in underdeveloped countries A LOT).

1st degree murder  has to be premeditated, which GF case wasn't, so def, impossible. 2nd degree might be a stretch? It definitely ticks boxes for 3rd degree for "lack of concern for human life," and "inherently dangerous actions," IMO.

And as for the analysis, I don't really care for a non-medical professional's analysis when it comes to, "who or what contributed to death?" The autopsy statement, "combined effects of Mr. Floyd being restrained by the police, his underlying health conditions and any potential intoxicants in his system likely contributed to his death." is enough for me.  That's like me asking a hippie junk with zero background in basic chemistry what he thinks about nuclear energy. 

I don't believe even the "medical professionals" know with any provable accuracy, especially here where too many factors played a role in this to be able to quantify objectively. So some Occam's Razor will be presented to a jury to simplify a complex situation.

 

I think this will less focus on the time before the "knee" part (which is bad news for Chauvin because clearly people want to redirect this to his character, or even toward Floyd's character, and away from Chauvin's actions), and focus extensively on what occurred to establish both the homicide and intended parts. For example, where it was mentioned about the ambulance, I think this doesn't matter, I could say to call an ambulance (or that an ambulance is on the way) and then throttle someone's throat and it make no difference.

 

Occam's Razor will be used in such ways like.. would Floyd have lived (past the incident in question) if Chauvin didn't put his knee on his neck for x minutes? At what point (if any) during the incident in question (knee on the neck) was Chauvin aware that Floyd was unresponsive? What things were said to him that should've compelled him to check on Floyd?

 

Even though the arguments given have merit, in some ways they are distractions, in nearly 10 minutes we get a significant amount of information about what Chauvin is doing, and it very heavily points to an intended death.

Of course, no one can know for 100% sure given too many things that happened with human influences - but between a person whose primary job is law enforcement versus a person whose life spans around studying medicine, I would say that I would get more reliable result from the latter. Pretty much every decision in our lives is going to be like that unless one side has an irrefutable evidence.
