Hi everyone. I had to post something, because our forum was looking a little scarce. Anyway USPS finally found my package and mailed it back to my house. I called them to ask #######? I had originally mailed it to Lagos on Dec 15th (express mail). Every time I called USPS to find out where it was they would tell me they were making an investigation and to give them 20 days or 30 days or 5 days and so on, to get back with me. Never got back with me though. Then yesterday I got a notice in the mail that they were trying to deliver it to my house and I can pick it up at the local post office. ahhhhhhhhhhhh. Aparently it went to the Nigerian Postal Service somewhere in Lagos and it was there so long that they shipped it back. Meanwhile USPS could never locate it to tell me where to have my husbands family go to get it. Now they say they will not refund me the 100 + that I spent to have it shipped. Ok sorry I'm just ranting. We are going to only use Fedex or DHL from now on.

My husband received his mail from USCIS without any special delivery in just 3 weeks  !! But this is a miracle, I suppose  My husband doesn't trust the mail in UG. I usually use FedEx for important docs, although it is more costly. Never had a problem with Fedex.

Sometimes I think I know everything, and I regain consciousness. Seen it all, done it all, forgot most of it....

So much plenitude, yet so much emptiness

Ugggggh. What a pain. Yes, in the end, we ended up only using Fed- ex and DHL because USPS was unreliable. We never had something returned like you did, and as far as I can tell, we didn't have any packages gotten into, but we did have problems with time. Sometimes it got there in 2-4 weeks, and sometimes it took months. You never knew what was going to happen. Sorry to hear they won't refund the money. Have you tried talking to a supervisor and explaining the whole mess. I'm sure it won't do any good, but it's worth a try.

Hello,

Same thing happend to me. I sent a package with toys and sweets to Cameroon USPS. After two months I gave up. Luckily I put my wife's phone number on the package. The cameroon postal service called her and said they had recieved the package over a month ago and if she did not come and pick it up in two days they were going to send it back. I sent a seven pound package to my wife through DHL. Arrived in Nigeria on the third business day (arrived in Cameroon on the fourth business day). But it cost $180.

I saw this morning on the news that a fed ex (or some such package buisness) plane caught on fire on landing this morning. The news article talked about how everyone was okay and about what might have caused it or not caused it. It also talked about how much damage there was to the plane. But, it said nothing about the packages inside. That is what I was thinking about the whole time. I just kept thinking of all those things that would probably never get to where they were supposed to be going. I felt sorry for those people who probably will never even know what happened to their stuff. It made me think of this thead.

Wow. we were going to resend everything fedex last week, but decided to wait till we get our new pictures done. With our luck ours would have been on that plain :P . Anyway the cost is 200 dollars to send our package fedex :( . USPS was only 100, but after this fiasco I think it is worth it.

I sent a christmas present to nigeria early december 2004 thru the USPS. He hasn't moved and it still hasn't arrived. Usually when he does get a package no matter WHO i send it thru he has to pay a bribe to get it from them ....

I purposely got a FedEx account and put that number on the front of the package stating that any additional charges should be billed to the account and it always is.. then they charge him for it as well. FedEx has closed my account because I REFUSE to pay for something he already paid for. When I told them this they said oh I'm sorry sometimes we have that problem in other countries but I still have to pay. YOUR problem not mine. I'm not paying my bill now. I consider it paid. At least it did get to him (2 days late even though I paid extra to get it there by a certain date.. grand total paid upfront $500) It caused him some financial trouble because of it being late and now they are double charging me for extra fees.. oh I don't think so.

The post office stuff doesnt get to him at all. If I send a letter or a card it usually makes it to him, no one cares to steal that but packages disappear without a trace. Now i just pack an extra bag when I visit and hand deliver everything. As for the documents needed for the visa.. hmm... DHL? Lord knows the post office will fail and FedEx doesn't want my business anymore.
