Hi All

I had my interview today!

I arrived 30 mins before my interview but I just hang out in my car because the instructions said not to arrive 15 mins prior to the interview.

I walked in and the security screened me for Covid (5 questions you have to answer). Then, I placed all my belongings in the bin. I had to take off my shoes, belt and watch. Just like airline security check. They want to ensure you don't bring any firearms.

Then, I needed to go to a room where someone checked me in. They also checked my temperature because of Covid. Then you take the elevator to the second floor and sit in the waiting room until they call your name. Before you enter your interview you need to switch off your phone.

I waited maybe 10 mins and I was called in. The officer was nice and asked me how I was doing. He ensured my phone was off. Then, he asked me if my husband came with me. (I have marriage based application). I got really surprised because my instructions didn't say that my spouse needs to come with me. So I asked him 'Was my husband supposed to attend too?' he answred 'No, but sometimes for marriage based applications they require the sposue to be here, but there is enough evidence in the file'.

We went into his office and started off with the test. He asked me six questions that I answered correctly, therefore didn't proceed with more questions. I was asked:

- who is the vice president of the us

- how many years do we select us senator for

- what promise do you make when you become us citizen

- what's stops the government from becoming to powerful

- what is one right reserved only for us citizens

I can't remember the last question.

Then I had to read the sentence: Who lives in the White House?

And write the sentence that he read to me: The President lives in the White House.

Then, we went over my information (my name, physical address etc. Etc.). One of the question was if I have any biological children. Since I applied, my daughter was born in November 2020 so he congratulated me and asked if I brought her birth certificate. I did, he looked at it, added the note to the file that he has seen it and gave it back to me. Then I had to answer the questions from the application such as: did you ever claim to be us citizen etc. After that, he congratulated me that I passed my test and he is approving me for citizenship. He printed out the document saying that I passed. On the touch screen I had to confirm my details and the information about my daughter. Then, he said that we are going to wait for my background check.

He mentioned that he is waiting for the call because previous person had old photo and had to send them to take new one and they would be coming back. After that, he proceeded with the Oath in his office. in the middle of the oath the phone rung and he answered it! So we were both standing there with our right hand up while he was taking a phone call. I was pretty upset about it. Seriously, this is a big deal and we got interrupted like that? I wouldn't mind that if that would happen during any other part of the interview. Anyway, he apologized and said that he shouldn't have done it during the oath! No !! I didn't say anything, because honestly what's the point? We continued. Then, he said that he is still waiting on the last part of the background check and since it is slow, I just need to wait. So after few minutes,he gave me back my green card and took me to the waiting room. He said to remind him to give the green card back once he brings my citizenship certificate.

And then the ####### has started. I was sitting in the waiting room for over an hour and he was not coming back. In the meantime, other officers were sending people home and telling them that the security background check system is down and they would mail them invitation for the oath ceremony. I was getting really frustrated. After an hour, my officer came out to grab another person for the interview. Then, he asked me if I need to leave. I told him that I do, because I live couple of hours away and we already came last night and stayed in the hotel to be here first thing in the morning. He said that he will come back after that interview and figure something out. So, after that he came and asked me what is the latest I need to leave Denver and I told him 2 pm. He asked me for my phone number and said to go do my thing and that he would call me when it's ready. At that point he asked me to give back the green card which I wasn't too sure about it, but he said I can't keep it because I am already a citizen. I went back to a hotel room, packed my stuff and left to run errand and then he called me. That was about 1.5 h later at 12.30 pm. He asked me how soon I can be there and I said ten minutes. Asked me what car I am driving. When I arrived in front of the building, he was already waiting outside. Came up to the car, handed me paperwork and explained everything.

Crazy!!

So glad to be done! Good luck to everyone. Trust the system.

Ps: I have flashcards for civic test. They are really nice. I got them at  imigration event. I am happy to mail it to someone if you are willing to pay for shipping. I can't imagine it would cost much. Let me know!

Big Congratulations to you. My interview is set for tomorrow and I’m so nervous about it

Hi all,

I just pass my interview today and become US Citizen. Yaaa

My interview was 10:45pm. I came to the facility at 10:am, waited until 10:25 to come and check in. But the security guys(not very friendly and helpful) I think asked me go out and wait for another 5’ because I was early even though no one in front of me. I had to go out and wait then came back shortly. After answer 5 Covid questions on the windows and went through security check point like airline, they checked my temperature and direct me to second floor.

I had to wait about 10’ and a lady came out and called my name. We then went to a room and started the interview. She asked me all the paper works (green card, passport, my spouse US citizenship certificate, and proof of relationship) and then we started N-400 application part first with a lot of yes/no and couple word explanations. Then we started reading test. I was asked to read “What do we have to pay to the Government?” And write the sentence “We pay taxes”. Very easy and straightforward.

Then we went through the Civic test

1/ How many US senators are there?

2/ what is the rule of law?

3/What ocean is on the West Coast?

4/ when was the constitution written

5/what did Susan B do?

6/ name two US Holidays?

Then she said congratulations you pass. She asked me confirmed information and then signed. She also asked me wait in the room so she would go and get me certificate. She came back just 5’ later and we started the oath process and gave me the packet include the citizenship certificate. The whole process took me about 1 hour and I’m glad it went very smoothly. Good luck everyone who still waiting.

Happy to say that I am now a US Citizen!

Interview was at 10:15, security was slow due to the Covid social distancing, once checked in I waited for about 10 minutes and was called in for my interview. They started out with the history questions, I got the first six correct so she moved on to the reading and writing portion. Then the interviewing officer verified my address, phone number, date of birth and social security number. Then we went through the Yes/No questions from the interview. She then told me that I was approved, administered the oath ceremony there and then and handed me a small US flag and my certificate of naturalization.

After applying for a passport and updating all the other fun stuff (driving license, registering to vote etc) the journey with USCIS is over! Very happy!

My timeline for those interested:

2020/11/19 - Filed online (local office is Denver, CO).
2020/11/28 - NOA received in the mail.
2021/01/20 - Biometric reuse letter received in the mail.
2021/04/01 - Interview, Approved, Oath Ceremony and Certificate of Naturalization in hand.

Hello!  I found reading the feedback from others helpful when I was working through my naturalization application , so wanted to add a little bit about my experience to hopefully do the same for others.

I filed my N400 online on 19 Nov 2020, my application is based on 5 years of employment green card and I applied exactly 90 days early.  I had my interview and same day oath today.

My experience at the USCIS office was much the same as others that have posted here recently.  The only thing that was different was that my interview was conducted by video conference with a USCIS officer in Reno, NV.

My interview notice was sent from the Reno field office and I didn't think much of it. When I was called up to go into the office for my interview I was informed that my case officer was in Reno and that my interview would be held virtually, over video.  I was led to a small office where the spot behind the desk had an iPad on a tripod and the officer was waiting for me on the screen.  Next to me was another iPad that was used to display the statement for the reading test and was also used for me to write on for the writing test.  I also signed on the iPad to confirm that my information was correct and attest that all my responses were truthful.

The officer was very relaxed and the interview was quick.  We started with the civics test, followed by a review of all my responses to questions on the N400 application.  He advised me that he was recommending my application be approved and with that, the printer on the other side of me sprung to life and my notice of interview result was printed for me to take.  With that, another officer appeared to escort me back to the waiting room.

I'd not read that anyone had been interviewed over video before, so was a little surprised but it was just fine!

My appointment was at 11.45am, we started maybe a few minutes early and I was back in the waiting room before noon.  I was asked to stay for the 1.00pm oath ceremony.  There were 8 people in total in the ceremony room, the ceremony itself was short and sweet.  I was handed my certificate and left the building as a citizen.

Good luck to all those still working through their applications...

Does Denver office still allow same day oath?

As far as many of the most recent posters have said, they are. At least for now. Don't know if they'll change things since more people are getting vaccinated.

On another post someone said they are not doing them anymore in some offices.  Not sure if this is the same case in Denver.  I had my interview on 4-20-21, but I am still waiting for approval.

Do you know what should we bring to an interview? Do we need to bring passport photos?
