My wife applied for AOS along with the I-765, Application for Employment Authorization in August. In Oct we received the request for the I-944 and it was sent and received on November 20 by USCIS. On the I-765 she requested a social security card since the social security office here was closed and they were not issuing appointments to come in for applying for one. Does anyone know if the SS card comes along with the Employment Authorization, or separately?

It comes separately  usually if at all.

It comes separately. EAD is sent by USCIS and SSN card is sent by SSA.

And sometimes mistakes happen. On the I-765 form, you consent to USCIS "forwarding" your info to SSA. Sometimes it isn't forwarded despite your consent.

What should I do if they do not forward the info to SSA? How will I know?

Maybe calling SSA and asking if a SSN was assigned. It'll depend on the SSA phone rep's competence.

Only other choice if your local office is not accepting appointments is to mail in the required documents to get your SS card. Risky yes, we did it that was our only choice.

Yes, it scared me which is why we opted to do it through the employment authorization route.

Can someone confirm whether the case gets updated once the biometrics appointment notice is shipped to the applicant or not? I have seen people say both yes and no. After seeing a lot of August/September people getting theirs in the mail, I am tempted to send in an e-Request to check whether I missed mine, in case they're not updating the website with such information.

Thank you in advance.
