You can still get your social security number without even submitting your AOS package first or marrying first. My wife has her social security card.

No you can’t. Since I arrived in July all of the SSO are closed and so it’s impossible. They won’t give you a phone interview if it’s your first one as it needs to be in person.

It won’t be bad. You have what you need. Now it’s out of your hands and all you can do is play the waiting game. *queue the jeopardy music*

And of course if you want something to do to feel productive you can always complete the forms now and look over them upon sending them off. I already completed mine, I’m just awaiting some supporting documentation. The form really isn’t that confusing in comparison to every other confusing form the USCIS puts out.

I have looked at them and they aren’t confusing. I’m just so over paperwork as I’m doing my teacher registration at the same time. It never ends!

What’s the best USCIS number to call to get receipt numbers if I’ve gotten no NOAs?

Package sent out 8/27. arrived at Chicago via FedEx 09/01. Nothing since then.

No e-notification form sent with my package as far as I know and I sent cashiers checks. So I think I’m stuck waiting on (the very delayed in my area) mail or calling.

Strange. Our SSO is open.

Unlikely to have receipt numbers if your check isn’t cashed. Receipt numbers are generally generated after check is cashed. My check took 28 days to be cashed. I don’t know your timeline but I hope that helps

Your timeline helps, thanks!

I don’t think I’ll know if my checks have been cashed though since they’re cashiers checks. I called the bank and they said I’d have to go into the branch to try to find out.

My timeline is: I-130/485 sent out Aug 27. Delivered to Chicago lockbox 09/01. That’s all so far!

If I want to call is it the 800-375-5283 number? Or is there a different one? Thanks!

Fellow Canadian applicant @Tigerlily87 has a similar timeline, also paid with cashiers check (which can take a little longer to post), and hasn't heard anything else either, so don't be discouraged if USCIS has no information for you on the phone. Some apps just take a little extra time to process.

Yes. Will probably be a 25 min to 1 hour wait time when you call. Just say speak to an agent on the prompt. I would give them a call tomorrow. Did you say you did not sign for electronic texts?

Thank you! No electronic texts unfortunately. We had a lawyer put the application together and so I followed their instructions. It's only in the last week or so that I went over all the forms I signed and realized they didn't include the e-notification form. I'm a little stressed because I'll be needing either AP sooner rather than later I'm pretty sure, so it would be nice to know if the application is actually in process. Even a credit card charge would have been a good sign! Ah well, no text notification/cashier checks will probably contribute only small delays in the grand scheme of things.

Was there any specific reasons you sent Cashiers check instead sending personal ones?

My packet was received on the same day as yours and I am still waiting for the physical NOA. I think that, considering the USPS delays, there is no reason to freak out yet so I'm going to wait a little longer.

Those instructions are no longer relevant due to Covid and USPS delays. You will get your notice it will just take some time. I have the same timeline as you expected mail by sept 19. They most like mailed your notices when you received the text message so give it up to 15 days from that date

Noa recieved today!

If it helps, as far as timing goes, not having the notifications won't delay you at all. Assuming your app is received and in order the next action you'll need to take is getting your biometrics done, and that appointment is scheduled for you and a notice will come in the mail (are things being delivered to you, or to your attorney?), there isn't any online update for it.

And in the rare case that your app was rejected there's nothing you can really do other than wait for it to come back to you / your attorney to figure out what went wrong. Probably a low percent chance that happens with an attorney involved!

Same here. Notice date of 09/09, Postmark 09/14, delivered today, 09/24.

Not sure if this is USPS or USCIS but looks like they may be batching up mail from USCIS and then taking their time to deliver.

How long are people waiting these days for biometric appointments? I ask because I’ve got to be out of the state (still in the country, but just the opposite coast) for about 2 weeks for my spouse to have a major medical appointment. In late Oct.
