Hi, to add my own update:

Packet received 8/31

Credit card charged 9/9

I used my U.K. based bank account and hoped it wouldn’t cause any problems- so far so good.

Oh man! I am jealous of your timeline! Still heard nothing and mine was received slightly before yours on the 28th!

Hi,

I'll be taking part in a 1 hour 1:1 feedback session study on I-485 conducted by USCIS next week. Let me know if you guys have any questions/feedback related to I-485 application form. I'll try to discuss it with them.

Just the 485 form or AOS generally? Because one thing that gave me fits was entering in the proper household size on the 864  -- if I answered the questions accurately, the household size would automatically switch to 3 (double counting my wife), and the protection on the PDF locked me out of changing it. The instructions say not to double count anyone, but they don't say how to not double count. (I wound up answering "Zero" for having a wife when I do in fact have one, the whole purpose of the form. Still waiting to see if I get an RFE for this or not!)

The email says I-485 to be specific. But not sure if they gonna discuss anything else. I'll take a note of your question.

FYI: You can always disable PDF Javascript from the preferences in Adobe to unlock fields to enter N/A or None, etc.

I did disable Javascript to edit most of the fields, but there are a few fields that are algorithmically controlled and I was unable to change their values without fully disabling the security on the document. I spent about an hour on it before giving up!

Yeah some of them are programmatically locked. Some hack would be do it programmatically by reading acrobat fields in Java or C++. Lol would be too complicated for someone who is not from computer science background.

I'm thinking of making a video on how to do it programmatically and upload on Youtube. lol

You need to understand the question first. The correct answer is zero for question 3. The key is what it says above question 2:

Persons NOT sponsored on this affidavit.

Since you're sponsoring your wife, the answer for question 3 is 0. If you answer 1 to question 1 and 1 to question 3, you're basically saying that you're sponsoring and not sponsoring at the same time.

That's the logic I eventually settled on, but to my mind putting "zero" there isn't the clearest option, -- I wanted to put N/A to avoid a double count, per the form's global instructions, but the field doesn't allow entry of anything but a number and the Javascript disable "trick" didn't work for that field. Something like "Mark N/A to avoid a double count" and allowing the field to be writable would have been a lot clearer to me!
