My case status changed to "Case Was Approved" today! So it was probably really only that the supervisor had to approve the case. Waiting on my GC now.

EAD card came today. Interview is next week.

I did not file taxes yet. I requested an extension because my wife still has no SS number. Should I just bring the 2019 transcripts? Should I bring what I would submit for 2020 taxes and explain she has no SS yet?

Congrats!

On our case, we also filed extension. We brought our IRS transcript (17,18,19) and just a print out of email from our CPA saying she requested extension for us (for 2020).

Congrats!

Our joint sponsor also requested an extension so we just brought the extension request and approval, three months paystubs, and a letter confirming employment for the joint sponsor. However, she didn't want to see any of that.

I would bring the 2019 transcript, just in case, but I assume you already submitted that with the AOS application.

Still no SS card. Was told to call back if we do not get it by May 28 and they will send a replacement out.

On the bright side, our interview is scheduled! June 29 at 12:10pm. Now we gotta get the medical... Ugh.

On the sucky side, also having to go to my divorce lawyer as turns out there was a backlog and the ex husband filed for alimony about 2 weeks before our divorce was final, over a year and a half ago... Covid sucks.

I had my interview today and everything went great. The officer told us she is going to approve the case, but it will take a while because she needs to put all the stuff in the system.

I'm a little worried because I forgot to give here the 2020 tax return from our joint sponsor and our case status change to "Interview was completed and my case must be reviewed". Everyone seems to get the new card status immediately and now I'm scared that it will take forever or they are going to send an rfe

I noticed you also interviewed in Charlotte... would you mind telling me what questions they asked that you can remember? :)

Oh course!

So the lady came to pick us up from the waiting room, after about 10min of waiting. At first she seemed a little annoyed, but she warmed up quite a bit and was super casual after that (my husband was so confused because he thought she was too casual 😅).

She started by swearing us in. My husband said: Yes, I will. I said: I do. And we are both very unsure what the right answer is 🤣 Either way, she then proceeded to ask the basics like DOB, citizenship, etc. After that, she asked a bunch of the questions from the I-485 like "Are you planning to spy on the US government?" etc. My husband said she seemed to only really care about the answers of some of these questions because she looked at me for only a few.

She then asked me:

- Do you work?

- What is your job? (Told be her friend has a similar job)

She asked my husband about his work. Then asked us:

- When did you get married? (to check if it was within the 90 days)

- Where did you get married?

- When did you meet? During college in Santa Fe, NM. When in the 4 years?

- Where you together the whole 4 years? Yes, but we moved to the Netherlands together after the first year.

- So, did you live in the Netherlands?

- How did you like that?

She did grill us a bit about the time we were separated last year because of COVID (my husband came to the US in March, but I was still working and then everything shut down so I was stuck in Germany for a while and we explain that. She then said, that makes sense).

- Did you file taxes together? (We did and gave them to her).

- Where do you live now? We told her and that we are going to move soon and she asked for the lease of the new place.

- Do you have any pictures? We handed her like 20 pictures and she asked about a few of them. She also said she would like to see some more candid shots from family gatherings for the ROC, which is really funny considering that because of COVID we really couldn't meet many people.

- Do you have any questions for me?

I had to sing one thing and then she said that she is going to approve us, but it will take a while because she has to go into different systems. She also said that we are on a good track and should just continue to collect evidence for the ROC and that it might be that we don't have to go for an interview for ROC. She explained the whole 2 year, 90 days before the expiration date filing thing and then walked us out.

Everyone there was super nice and helpful.

Alright, my wife (beneficiary) and I had our interview on 5/25 in Chicago. Here is how it went:

We arrived about 30 minutes before and were asked to come back 15 minutes before our appointment. Once it was time we went through security and got to the waiting area. There were maybe another 3-4 other couples. No one had lawyers.

We took our number and started to wait. Our appointment was scheduled for 12.45, we got called by the officer about 1.20. It actually felt good, as it gave us time to relax a little.

Officer was friendly and polite. He started off by swearing us in. Then he asked me for my name, social security, and date of birth. Same for my wife.

Then he proceeded with asking my wife those required questions like "have you ever been arrested". He looked at our passports, drivers licenses and gave them back to us.

Next he asked my wife for the address where we live. He actually did it three different ways (so is there an apartment number? what is the house number? is it a house/condo?)

This is the 2nd marriage for both of us, he asked for divorce docs for each, as well as current marriage certificate. He looked at them and gave them back.

He also asked for my naturalization certificate and my wifes birth certificate and translation. I am Russian, naturalized about 6 years ago. My wife is Chinese.

He compared those docs to what we submitted with our initial application and gave them back to us.

Then he asked: "what documents did you bring?"

I gave him:

1) Deed to the house we bought together

2) Last 2 mortgage statements in both of our names

3) Property tax bill

4) Car insurance cards

5) Health/life insurance showing my wife as my beneficiary

6) Our joint 2020 tax transcript

7) Joint bank account statement

😎 Affidavit from friends

9) Pictures

He briefly looked through the docs, asked if had any wedding pictures - we said no - because of COVID we did not have a real celebration just yet.

I offered him some spam mail that my wife received in our new address, he did not take it. Everything else he kept.

In addition, with our initial application we submitted:

1) Lease for the place we rented back then

2) Mortgage pre-approval

3) Electric bill

4) Joint bank statements

5) Car insurance

6) Affidavit from another friends

7) Pictures

I asked if he needs our paystubs and employment verification - he said no. He asked for medical forms - I said we submitted it with our initial application. It was fine.

That was pretty much it. As he was typing something in his computer he asked my wife what exactly she was doing for work and where I worked.

We actually work for the same company, so we briefly chatted about that. I joked how i referred my future wife several months after we met and got a referral bonus when she got hired to pay for dates.

Then he said he has all he needs and that we will hear the decision within 2-4 weeks. He described benefits of a green card when it comes to travel and employment and sent us on our way!

Later that evening the I-485 status got updated to "new card is being produced" and the following morning, statuses for both i-485 and i-130 changed to "case approved"! DONE!

Also, we actually received my wife's new EAD+Travel card the day after the interview, so those cases were approved as well, although it took so long and now she'll get the greencard in a couple of weeks. But will add that one to the immigration pile!

Good luck to those still waiting!

Interview Just Scheduled!

PD. August 24th, NY

Any tips on what to prepare? We started preparing but you never know what you might miss

May I ask if it's for NYC?

And when was the the change of USCIS case status to "Interview was scheduled?"

We just saw our status changed to "Interview was scheduled" and we are concerned that we'll get invited to an interview while we aren't in NYC. 😣

Best of luck on the interview!
