Hi guys! So yesterday I received my interview notice for I-485, and my status changed to 'interview scheduled'. I completed biometrics just before Christmas and had no update on EAD. I was looking online this morning and it seems some people are skipping the EAD/AP stage completely for some locations. I am based in El Paso, and I know someone else who applied in August who just got their interview scheduled. I don't think it's unique to this location and worth noting that this is happening. Fingers crossed for everyone to have biometric and approval progress soon!!

I was thinking just a couple days ago that I would apply for a job with USCIS.... 1) I think I could do a good/efficient job!!, and 2) It might help with EAD expedite?? lol

Congrats! I always like to see fellow Brits cases moving forward, it gives me hope that maybe mine will follow suit! 😆

Does anybody here know of anybody who's got an RFIE related to the contents/documents of form i-944? i'm just wondering what i should take extra care about. i'm considering not sending an equivalence of my degree because i don't work with it anymore, i shifted career..so i would be sending it just to say i have a higher degree but i actually work with something unrelated, besides, that degree is kinda useless here in the us (law)

I did not send the equivalence of my degree I just sent a copy of my degree and other certificates, and sent along a cover letter explaining why I didn’t sent the equivalency. It has been 2 weeks since they received it and I haven’t gotten a rfie about it, so I’ll wait and see. I really don’t think it should be an issue, cause look at it this way, what if we did not have a degree? But hey let’s see what will happen.

yeah right? nowadays having a degree means nothing at all, most of my american friends who incurred in huge student loan debts, work in careers that are unrelated to their degrees.

I learned the same after earning my bachelors that it’s not what get you that rewarding job you desire, but rather how u apply yourself in whichever field. Yes having a degree & sending the evaluation of equivalency document might score you some point with whichever officer is reviewing your case, but their overall decision on whether one is a charge or not, that 1 document I don’t think will carry much weight on their choice. That’s just my opinion though. So if you can afford to do the evaluation of equivalency & have the time to get it done before your deadline go ahead, but if not I’d send it without it because I’ve asked someone who recently got their interview & submitted the i944 & they didn’t have a degree to begin with.

I think the rational behind why USCIS ask for the evaluation of equivalency (if you are submitting foreign documents) is because they want to put burden on the applicant to submit documents that are equivalent to US standard otherwise it would be difficult for them to know if a degree is a degree OR a diploma as per US universities standard. I think as per I-944 burden is on the applicant to make sure their positive factors out-weight negatives. Education is one of the positive one.

Its similar to when you apply for grad. admission here in US they ask you to submit the evaluation of equivalency of your foreign degree.

Just adding more info here:

We applied in August, based in VA. It took us about two months to get the initial receipts in the mail (yes, the notes that say they got our application), so we weren't expecting anything to happen quickly. But we got the biometrics notice around 12/20 for 1/5 and went to get the fingerprints taken on 1/5, which took about 30 including the wait time.

The online status updated that night for I-485 & I-765 as "fingerprint taken", and the online status for I-485 just changed a few minutes ago for "ready to schedule interview." Who knows when that will be, but at least things are moving.

Hope everyone hears from the office soon!

Similar timeline:

-Submitted case August

-Did biometrics 1/4/2021

-I-485 updated yesterday to case ready to be scheduled for interview

-However, I-765 still says fingerprints applied to case.

I am so jealous of you all! I am SO bored now. I found a job I would love and I am applying anyway with a potential job offer to hopefully be used to expedite my EAD.
I know my process slowed down because of my I-944 RFIE but they have that now and it feels like I am waiting. However seeing some of you guys have your status changed to ready to schedule interview gives me some hope!

I feel you. I am still waiting for biometrics and probably far away from getting my EAD, it is all making me very bored and unhappy because I hate sitting at home unable to do anything.

Definietly try expediting though! I was thinking of trying that myself once my biometrics are done.

Had my biometrics done in San Francisco on 01/07, but no update yet on I-485 or I-765 case that fingerprints have been taken. I'm glad things have eventually started moving forward after all these months of waiting, but it blows my mind how even basic things like updating what step has been taken in the process take so long sometimes...

I'm tempted to just call them and check what happened, after seeing some people getting their case updated the same day/soon after, let alone those who got "Ready for Interview" right after.

Me too. So is my daughter.
I mean we wouldn't do that much due to COVID anyway but I could at least have my SSN so I could drive places. That would be nice.
I need a job offer to expedite and it is hard to get one as most employers would rather not bother waiting but we will see!

We put in an expedition request for his EAD and AP on Friday, Jan 8.

So far no updates to those status', and no email updates. *Waits*, *Taps fingers on the table*.

Hopefully by Friday of this week we'll hear something.

He desperately wants his SSN too. It's unreal that they want the immigrants to be self-sufficient but then won't let them work for months or longer. 🙄😒

Oh that is so exciting. I have only seen people do EAD. Didn't know you could do both. Does he have a job offer or what was the reason? I have only seen job offers get them.
I want one asap as I am almost 20 weeks pregnant and we could really use my income too. Plus we want to buy a house and I want to work! God, I also want to drive and I can't as no SSN! I hope yours is accepted!
