CEAC says visa refused?!?!? Consular officer said we were all good

Wife had her interview today, everything went smoothly. All docs prepared and she had rehearsed some answers so she wouldn't be so nervous. Consular officer asked her all of 5 or 6 questions, took the police certs, marriage cert, and birth cert. Told her everything was good and that she was approved. That her passport would be delivered next week.

I went to the CEAC site, and it says the application is refused. W.t.f.!

Need some help here. She is 7 months pregnant, and we need to get her to the USA ASAP

What paperwork did she receive after the interview?  This is likely just normal processing status.  The fact that the consulate kept her passport indicates it is likely to be completed soon.  Watch for the status to change to "issued"  That is the real indicator of approval.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

So we got this, but it was because the medical people hadn't sent over the documents. I had to chase it down then it was approved. Did she get a document with a tick box on it? It will probably explain it on there if she did.

Interesting, well I didn't realise I had the document (its yellow) until my husband said my visa was refused. But if they kept her passport I think everything should be ok.

Thats good to know. USCIS and NVC have given us issues since day 1. To the point that multiple senators and a congressman had to get involved. So I'm pretty messed up at this point

Oh I feel for you. We had issued where it took us an additional 12 months to move, two years in total! We had issues with the IRS (the company my husband worked for submitted expenses on top of salary so had to re-file for 2017/2018 entirely). So when the pandemic came around, I had my visa in hand, we said sod it, and I packed two suitcases and left on the first flight that would leave the UK. I got my approval 13th March and the embassy closed on 16th so I was last in.

It's a stressful time, and I sympathise with you as I've been there. I hope this gets sorted very shortly so you can both be together :)

I think "refused" is simply the new AP status, others reported this since earlier this year. Every case is going through AP after interview, it should change to issued shortly if they told her that she's approved. There is "normal" AP and "bad" AP from what I gather from others, but immediately after the interview there's no reason for concern :)

Good luck!

Embassies should normalize being clear to people about what the words Administrative Processing and Refused mean.

I've seen this with someone recently through Jamaica - They were told they were approved at the interview, the online status was set to refused, then changed within a day or two - he's here in the US within 2 weeks of his original interview.  Keep checking
