After a false start from a rejected application (wrong application edition 😖), we finally got the USCIS text message and notice from our bank that the check was cashed this morning!  Receipt date was 8/21 and I assume the application is now headed to the Potomac Service Center because the receipt number begins with "YSC."  Now the real waiting begins!

August 17- Petition received

August 26- Check Cashed

Just received my I-797 NOA 18-month extension letter in the mail. The notice date on the form is August 24th and the envelope was postmarked August 25th.

so the main things to watch out for is... I-751 form signed by me and my spouse... check- signed and dated .... and a copy of the green card right? failing in any of these would have the application rejected correct?

I'm about to mail mine out tomorrow.... if I can sort through everything... then by today.

Correct, the 12/02/2019 edition is current.  Because I refuse to accept that I need glasses, I used the 2017 edition because I can't tell the difference between a "7" and "9"! 😆

I believe you’ll also want a copy of your passport biographical page as well as evidence of an ongoing good faith marriage relationship over the past 2 years included in your package.

if you’ve failed to meet the burden of proof/evidence it’s possible that your application could get denied/postponed. They’ll tender a Request for Evidence notice which could delay your process significantly. Be sure to be thorough the first time around. It’s a long enough process as is without preventable hiccups setting you back additional months.

  • Copies of statements from our joint checking account for last 6 months.
  • Our car insurance documents that has both our names on it.
  • copies of her state ID (she doesn't have a DL yet)

Your list looks pretty good, it should be at least enough to avoid an outright denial.  Without a joint lease or deed/mortgage, they may ask for two years of statements from your joint bank account, since you only sent six months.  If they decide to ask for those they will send an RFE, but you may be okay with everything you sent since it's fairly comprehensive.  Here's hoping it will not take too long and that you'll be approved.  Did you send joint health insurance evidence, or beneficiary on retirement accounts, will, living will, power of attorney?  Good luck!

But just to be on the safe side, in case of an RFE, if you can gather other documents such as itineraries of any trips you and your spouse might have took, receipts, pictures of the places you both visited, hotel reservations, pictures with family and friends during holidays and even better the birth certificate of your child could help bolstering your bonafides of your marriage and relationship. Good Luck :)

yes, I did send a flight ticket email of a trip we had last year. it lists both our name. and the photos I did send includes photos with family and friends- and one from a trip in Niagara Falls. we didn't travel around much... but now with Covid and my wife's pregnancy- I don't see any travelling happening in the future.
