This is mainly my fear, as I know a couple who were denied for this very reason. Thank you so much for your comment. I have a lot to think about.

There are US citizens who live overseas as well, so this may not be an issue.  Direct Counselor Filing exists for US citizens living overseas, so this situation does come up sometimes.

I hope so! "fingers crossed" Islamabad is a very difficult embassy. Sadly, they do not have direct counselor filing.

One suggestion is to continue to file US taxes, have US health insurance (you can probably get a reasonably priced plan through the ACA), etc

That would be a little difficult. I do not pay taxes on my income because I am a disabled US military veteran, at 100 percent service connected. Our pensions are tax exempt. Also, my health care is through the VA.

In the US, I am here alone with our child and have few close relatives, plus additional disability makes even daily life quite hard. These are the reasons I want to be back in Pakistan with my husband. I do expect his case to take another year or two to complete, given the current global situation, our previous denial, AP in Pakistan, ect..

Those are great pieces of advice though. Thank you.

Can you still file taxes even though you do not need to pay?  Like, fill out the form, and you will owe nothing, but at least you get a return/are in the system.  I know some people file taxes with $0.00 income just so they are in the system.  There are a few other threads that mention this (mostly to get healthcare via the ACA), so that is possibly something that you can do.

There was someone who did this to prove lack of income for ACA purposes, so this is certainly possible.
