Does anyone know if the any of the same people who can / do ajudicate passports...have anything to do or could ajudicate Visas?

It's a long shot I imagine, but I did read that as of today, that whole backlog with passport applications is now over, and...someone from the State Dept. said something about having to move ajudicators around, hire new ones, etc.

...Maybe I am just looking for a reason to think things will pick up again, but imagine if people from service centers were pulled or reassigned to cover the passport problem. I could totally see the government justifying that because, I mean, they'd be placing US citizens who need passports over people who want visas, cause they aren't citizens yet.

Again, maybe I'm completely talking nonsense...but I thought it was interesting.

Well, my passport was issued from New Orleans. They definitely don't process US passports and visas in the same places. However, it is an interesting idea you have. When I saw the clip on FoxNews tonight about the passports, i immediately wondered the same thing. Hmmmm. Wish the media would have asked this question to the government.

But do you know *where* exactly it goes?

What if, by odd chance, you send your passport one place, it's forwarded to a Service Center, forwarded back to a place near your home, and then mailed to you?

...The government is good at making lots of pointless bureaucracy, and that would fit the bill!

...I'm probably really, really wrong, but it's still something to ponder, no?

No, I'm pretty sure that passports are not processed in the same places as foreign visas. These are the only 2 addresses I found for Passport services. Funny thing is neither of them are New Orleans, as that's where mine was issued.

Passports are processed by the Department of State (DOS). USCIS is part of the Department of Homeland Security. I do not think there is any crossover of adjudicators.

In the height of the passport crisis DOS asked for volunteers from the embassies to come home to help with processing passports. I doubt if they got many volunteers but if there were any they will presumably be heading back to the embassies. That might speed up scheduling of interviews although I tend to doubt it.

This is good news for me however. I have a discrepancy between the name on my birth certificate and the name on my passport. (They dropped the suffix on my last name on the passport.) If I get an RFE or a rejection it won't take me 6 months now to get a new passport. At the time I filed, getting a new passport was not a viable option.

My apologies for multiple posts of the same thing, but I think that it is important that everyone is aware of this.

As some of you may remember, I raised the question a while back as to what dates should be entered as the NOA1 & NOA2 dates on a VJ timeline. There were a lot of opinions expressed, but personally I was still not comfortable that I knew the correct answer.

I was beginning to write a letter today to the moderators asking them to provide a clear answer to this question. As I was looking at the timeline edit page to double check my terminology I noticed a link entitled How to find your NOA date.

Is this new or was it there all the time? I do not remember seeing it before. In any case, this link makes it clear that the date that should be entered as the NOA date on a VJ timeline is the Notice Date on the hard copy of the I-797 Notice of Action. This has nothing to do with how USCIS handles petitions. It is simply a VJ procedural guideline that is provided so that everyone is entering data on a consistent basis.

This guideline applies to both the NOA1 and the NOA2 date.

If we all update our timelines to reflect this, then the VJ statistics and projections will be as accurate and consistent as possible.

While it was agreed that the RECEIVED DATE/PRIORITY DATE is generally the more accurate NOA1 date then the NOTICE DATE; it was also agreed that the date the application was sent was close enough so that it did not matter that much.

Wow. Guess I was way out of the loop on that discussion! I am reading through all the posts now. So far it sounds like we should entering the notice date until further notice but that the adjudication estimates are being based on the sent date. More later.

I am still waiting like others here - hope we have some NOA2 next week - one day - I agree w/others who indicated gathering documents needed for packet 3, I have done this and it helps to keep me focused on something other than when I will get the NOA2....

I have no idea what one would do about that space. I guess you would either leave it blank or something like "To be decided". Hmmm. i wonder if Moscow sends the same instruction....
