Does anyone have any advice on how to get through the next few months.

Also - does anyone know anything about obtaining a visa for his mother? Does he need to be a citizen first or can she come on a visitors visa - she's 55+. :help:

you just have to sit tight and focus on the positive...you cant let this get you down...you have to think of how wonderful your life will be in a few months when this process is done with...

i know it feels like forever, but in reality, its only a few months, and you have your entire life to spend together!

how lucky we are to have someone that we care about SO much, that we are willing to go through such a complicated, emotional process for them

we are SO lucky to have someone who cares so much about us that they are willing to leave everything that they have ever known in order to pursue a life with us in a strange distant land

how wonderful our lives truly are

i know how it is to be down about this whole thing, believe me...but right now im in one of those wonderful times where nothing can get me down (aka cloud nine)...my fiance and i constantly talk about all our hopes for the future, and what our lives will be like...where we want to live, work, go on vacation...how many kids we want, their names and what activities we want them to enroll in...we basically cover every single detail that one can imagine is relevant to a married (or soon to be married) couple...if talk about these things, and realize that you're on the same page, then itll be easier in the long run...plan your life together!!!!!

btw---your mother in law can apply for a tourist visa, but its not guaranteed she will get one (depending on her assets and ties to syria)...i believe she can apply for the visa before he is a citizen, after he adjusts his status (is a green card holder)

best wishes and good luck on your journey

Actually, a LPR cannot file such a petition for family members. Only United States Citizens may do so.

So the short answer is yes, however, they have to wait 3 years before they apply for and receive their Citizenship before one can do that.

Those are the same sort of responses I am getting from my family - some say he has petition for her once he becomes a Citizen - others say because of her age she is elligible for a visitors visa - i'll have to look into it - just thought maybe someone here had an idea or was thinking similar thoughts in regards to their inlaws.

His father passed away when he was very young and he's taken care of his mom all these years - she makes it very hard for both of us - as excited as we are - she is not so excited.

Getting a different visa might not be a bad option, may be viable I am not really sure.

But to file, say, an I-130 to bring her here to live here...that one certainly requires the petitioner to be a USC.

That is only if they want to immigrate.

If she just wants to come for a visit she can go and apply for a tourist/visitor visa regardless of her son's status here. Anyone can apply for one, they do not need to have relatives here. Whether they get it or not is another story.

He only petitions for her if he wants her to immigrate.

Visiting is a different story. No need for him to even be here for her to want to come and visit. My parents had visitor's visas for the US long before I got here 'just in case' they needed to get here in a hurry.

I think there must be more because my 'predicted adjudicated date' has come forward by 5 days since yesterday. Perhaps more have been approved, changed their timelines but not added to this thread?

nope, because the updates are automatic based on people's timelines...if they updated the timelines, it would show in the list...also you can check how many people have gotten NOA2s this week by searching timelines by service center
