i was under the impression that vsc and csc have been the only two processing centers for quite some time, is that incorrect?

im also hoping to get my NOA2 by the 90 day mark, but im betting that things are going to pick up, and we will be seeing our NOA2's sooner than that...im not holding my life to this, and if it doesnt pick up, i wont be devestated or anything...im just saying that history tends to repeat itself, it might not be exactly the way it was last year, but all of the service centers seem to have the trend of peaking in the summer, i dont think thats a coincidence...also ive heard that imbra began last spring, like april, not in august...forgive me if ive been misinformed

i am trying to keep things realistic, which is why i dont see this current backlog as the devestation as many others do...i think its normal, and that its not going to be this way forever

I think you're right, but I think alot of people have been sending their applications to their local service center, which then forwards it to VSC or CSC, which probably adds some days to the total processing time. I don't know if they're still doing that or not, I remember reading there was a cut off date where you were supposed to begin sending it to one of the two designated service centers. I'm not sure when that date is, though.

I do hope it speeds up a little. I'm tired of waiting and would love to start the next part of this process. I'm not devasted by it, either, but I'm bored.

Double hole punches were just an example, guys. There's more you can do to organize your petitions. At any rate, the only point I was trying to make is that perhaps some workers are more inclined to thumb through a petition that is "easy". That's all. If I was that employee and I had 3 files that were thrown together quickly and 1 file that was professional and simple to review, which one do you think would get my attention immediately?

22 Jun 05 - We met in a tiny bar in Williamsburg, Va. (spent all summer together)

27 May 06 - Sasha comes back for a 2nd glorious summer (spent 8 months apart)

01 Jan 07 - Jason travels to Moscow for 2 weeks with Sasha

27 May 07 - Jason again travels to Moscow for 2 weeks of perfection

I think that makes sense. When I sent mine in I didn't hole punch it, but I had the table of contents thing that VJ made on the front, and then put the information into it in that order. I also had little labled tabs at the bottom for each thing on the contents page. I don't know if it will make them look at it faster, but it might.

If I was the employee looking through all the files I'd probably take the smallest one, first. That might just be because I'm lazy. So I'd say along with organization, only including necessary information would be helpful. Like, instead of sending 100 emails, just pick 5-10 with dates that are spread out enough to show how long you've been talking.

Just to put yhings into perspective a bit, in 2006 when VSC processing times were much longer it was due to the IMBRA recall, when the backlog for that was caught up, they resumed their normal processing times. This year, you must bear in mind that they have added a whole new slew of states that VSC processes petitions for, so I wouldn't be surprised at all if VSC remains at a slower pace. I just don't think comparing processing times from VSC last year to this year is comparing apples to apples. The variables are very different.

Aw come on, it gives us something to keep our minds occupied. ;)

I agree that it is dangerous to make assumptons about the future based on the past, but at the same time sometimes there are seasonal variations that are repeated every year.

Good point about IMBRA, I had not considered that and really don't know the details.

I don't see the evidence yet of the impact of the reallocation of states you describe. K1 lead times have actually been less than last year's so far and there has only been a small increase in the number of applications. With that said, I suspect that May's final results will reverse that trend.

I think there are 2 things we should all remember.

First, Visa Journey data does not reflect all the applications that are processed. Therefore, Visa Journey results for any given month may not be the same as those for the Service Center as a whole. It occurs to me that the number of VJ timelines is so small that a few problem applications might really skew the results.

Second, the key factor is not the number of service centers, but the number of adjudicators per application in each center. I do not know if this figure has increased, decreased or stayed the same in VSC. Does anyone know?

Best of luck to everyone, and keep the faith. Eventually they will get to all of us!

Bill

Look, I'm not trying to ruin anyone's fun here. I just want people to set realistic expectations for getting their NOA2. Believe me, as a July filer, no one would be more happy than me if things went quicker, BUT I have set myself the expectation that I will be really lucky to get my NOA2 at around the 90 day mark.

I'm certainly not hanging my hopes on a seasonal trend, since the changes that have recently been made. Adding in several new states to the processing will have some impact. As you pointed out, what is reported to VJ is just a fraction of the actual numbers. Also, more July filers might find this site later in the game, once their frustraions of hearing nothing reach a peak. Not everyone finds VJ before they file.

Again, I'm not trying to be doom and gloom, but at the same token I'd certainly hate to fill people with false hope that things will magically pick up because its August. For the July filers, in particular, its just way too early to be building up such levels of stress. So, the numbers we have now may not be the numbers we have in 6 weeks.

Its great to have a postive attitude, but it must also be a realistic one. Good luck!

I agree with most of what you have said. I am not sure if your comments are directed to me or the group as a whole, but just so there is no confusion, I have not intended to give anyone the impression that I felt processing times would be decreasing. I tried to simply present the data in an organized fashion, point out some of my observations (which I probably should not have called conclusions) and let people make up their own minds.

I will also point out that I said I do not see any evidence yet of an increase in VSC applications due to the service center changes because I realize that July data as well as that of April, May and June is incomplete at this stage. Along those lines, I caution everyone not to draw conclusions based on current April and May 2007 processing times, because they will be increasing as more NOA2's are issued to those groups. Except for "late reporters", each new NOA2 issued will have a processing time that is greater than the current average. Therefore the average reported processing times will be increasing for those groups.

At this point, I think the table I prepared should only be used to satisfy curiosity about what has happened in the past and perhaps to dampen any unrealistic expectations. However, I am hopeful that the table will prove to be more valuable as time passes. The data for the recent months will begin to mature and it will give us a clearer picture of post reconfiguration VSC processing times. The table is intended to compliment the other table of data that is posted on this thread. With the two tables, I think we can all easily keep ourselves aware of what is going on at VSC.

Best of luck to everyone! :)

Bill

oh awesome, that makes a lot of sense and answers my questions...so basically:

previously:

california service center took petitions from nebraska and texas service centers

since july 30:

california service center still processes nebraska petitions, but handed texas over to vermont

i get it

now i understand why someone said that in theory csc should be processing faster, and vermont slower...i would hope that this all would be compensated with a bigger workforce, but god only knows ::shrugs::

Yep, that is the million dollar question. Did VSC increase their staff when they took on the TSC states? Until we know that, it is impossible to predict the impact of the change.

Anyone have an idea how we find the answer to that question?
